Don't see any mention of the damage eucalyptus do when planted as non-native species in habitats unsuited to them. Apart from poisoning the soil and making it unfit for native species, it can also be fatal to wildlife, especially birds, as this site explains http://www.prbo.org/OBSERVER/Observer108/Focus108.2.html. I wasn't impressed with the snide remark about 'environmentalist mythology' either.
This all reads like the industrialist's answer to the natural world, and as for the piece on the 'first time flowering in the UK' brought in by Tom, a 'plant hunter', I thought that species had died out in Victorian times, and I'm appalled that people are still doing this. Snowdonia [Wales] is covered with rhodedendron, another invasive foreign species which was brought in as an ornamental garden plant which escaped into the wild. It has killed off much of the native plants and smothers the countryside. Action is now being taken to kill them, but as with eucalyptus they are a damn hard plant to eradicate.
Not impressed, this site reads more like a commercial agro-business site than a blog.
