LITTLE KNOWN FACT FOR USED CAR BUYERS:
Up until now, I have assumed that a manufacturer has some control over their individual dealers. I bet you have assumed this as well.
Sadly, the fact is otherwise. I have an issue with a Toyota dealer that involves purposeful deception if not outright fraud. I thought the issue would be easily resolved once I was in contact with the Toyota Experience Center. Unfortunately that has not been the case.
If you call the Toyota Experience Center and inform them you have been sold an automobile with severe damages you were unaware of when you bought it, and that the dealer purposefully hid those damages, you will be told to "work it out with the dealer".
In other words, "Sorry, you'll have to negotiate with the crook."
Having written a four page letter detailing the complaint I thought I might receive a better response from Toyota. The letter has not been answered (it's been three weeks) and the "Experience Center" has twice informed me that they have no capacity to ensure that a dealer does not lie, cheat, or otherwise deceive a customer.
This is not the Toyota Motor Company I have been dealing with for twenty-five years. Solet me caution any potential used car buyer, especially in Western Massachusetts, to be very wary of what they are getting because the one thing they will not be getting is any help from Toyota itself if a problem turns up.
