Well thanks to you all...I truly appreciate the moral support that I haven't received from my "friends" at BC. Not a problem....life does go on

      debbit;

sorry for your turnout on BC. Bloggers see all kinds of fund raisers I know I have, you might get a better response by holding a contest. Just my 2 cents good luck.
    2. clioandme
Some offered tips for getting people to your blog. Putting people down wasn't one of them.
  2. clioandme
There's only one post on the blog. I'm surprised they even listed it here so soon. Why not work on the content and gaining readers for it?
    1. globalgirl
I visited her site and did not realize it was one post ONLY.

Debbit, build your site around the disease and you will soon gather readers over time and people who will join your cause. You could draw in readers by blogging about how loved ones are affected, or how diet can help, or ways to improve memory, etc... You may even consider a forum to your site which will also draw in readers.

What is your time frame? Looks like you want to be around till 2013 so there is time to build readership, support and content.

When people give $1.00 through PayPal, does it go to your bank account? It appears so, even though you have labeled it "onemillion..." People are skeptical giving money to a stranger, directly into their bank account instead of to the tax exempt org directly.

Let me ask: What advantage does a "donor" have giving to you versus the organization directly?

One other suggestion for you is to continue participating in discussions AND start a discussion ABOUT the disease or ANY disease or whatever that will interest more BC members.
    2. clioandme
Your question about donating directly versus to this blog was in my mind too. The PayPal Verified icon on the site means nothing from this point of view.

And what am I supposed to make of this earlier thread, in light of what I've seen on the blog and here? www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/1-million-memories-hits-the-5k-mark
    3. globalgirl
Oh, now that is interesting. Debbit, why not blog about giving that $5K to Alzheimers or see if the organization can give you direct endorsement to harness more viewers/donors.
    4. debbit
The one post is the opening of the project. The pages speak for themselves. Thanks for your input...remain skeptical if you wish. All the major donations go through first giving. Anything over $1 will be declined through paypal. If you read through you'll find the truth. So much for education. And by the way, no one put you down. I happen to have a difference of political opinion with you. I don't accept that you're right just because you say so, nor should you accept that I am. I'm open to learning and reading both sides. Tell me something I don't know, i"ll be the first to admit it.
    5. globalgirl
Debbit, don't leave BC. We were confused about the donation issue. Now it is clear. I think it would be handy for you to post about your partnership with FirstGiving and how you partner with them so other readers/responders can get a better picture.

Thanks for what you are doing (and for introducing me to FirstGiving!).
  3. clioandme
A couple other questions: Why the hard sell? (See exclamation marks in the title.) I never see a legitimate charity do that. And has anyone seen the tags in this thread? Strange that none of them mentions the actual disease in question. Might just be clumsiness on the blogger's part, but I'm skeptical, not least because of earlier $5000 claims that do not match the current rant.
    1. thegnr
stoneman; You don't play LOL your gonna have to change your name to iceman.
You have raised some valid points.
    2. debbit
stone...you've done a wonderful job of slamming me...why not just now go away. Apparently you haven't read anything on the blog and formed an opinion based soley on rhetoric...oh wait...that's the Obama tactic. So Now I'll leave BC and you can say I was chased away. Thanks for all the moral support. The cause is important. Not the money. Bye now
  4. thegnr
    globalgirl; good advice
  5. TonyB
Mark, I agree that the way it's presented raises questions, however when you click through to the blog, all donations go to the Charities site at firstgiving.
    1. clioandme
What button are you talking about? When I click the PayPal button, it takes me to a donation screen for 1millionmemories. Oh, now I see the link in the post. You're saying FirstGiving is legitimate. Okay. But can you see the problem with having a separate and more prominent PayPal button with a private account on the same blog? I remain skeptical.
    2. globalgirl
I don't see the FirstGiving button on her blog either; only PayPal. But I have to say her FirstGiving site is cool!

[edit]Now I see the FirstGiving link "One Million Memories" - smack in the middle of her post.[/edit]
    3. debbit
My blogs are now pulled. I will not continue in a community that allows bullying in the guise of some "certain" members being allowed to run rufshod over others. Its simply not necessary. All over a difference in political opinion. Eh...I'll be on the web and I'll have my $1M for Alzheimers. Not by the help of people such as are found here.

Global Girl and GNR have always been helpful and nice and truly I appreciate all your kind comments.
  6. debbit
Here's the thing Y'all...its my way of bringing awareness. If you don't want to give don't/ As I said..I'll leave BC peacefully. I don't take one dollar to myself. As to the 5K....it came from outside donors. Ask AO if they got it...they'll be glad to tell you they did...So...life goes on Y'all..Be well...and try not to be so callous. Kindness in life will get you a lot further.
    1. globalgirl
Debbit, really as I said above, don't leave BC. It was mere miscommunication. You are doing a great work!
    2. thegnr
      Hey Debbit;

I wouldn't say that the blogcatlog community as a whole is like that, how ever you have a few gritty bloogers here and there. Trust me the good out weighs the bad,if you have your agenda push it no matter what any body thinks. i feel that the written word can often be mis understood.( i'm not saying that was the case here) Take care Debbit
  7. debbit
GNR...the bullying must stop. I have my "agenda", my cause, and no knife for anyone. Life is just to freakin short. I refuse to be rolled over because one history professor thinks that his candidate is the only one that someone should support. Thereby, choosing to jump on me. Oh well..again life is too short and I've got a whole lot of living to do. I'm still looking for a review of Bird ON a Wire from you though. I'm still a subscriber.

Global Girl, thanks for all your support, I'll be visiting your blogs regularly. Your ethics and kindness will take you far.
    1. thegnr
      Debbit;
I hear you life is way to short for any hassles. I don't know the whole story but hopefully it won't turn you off from this community.
Please leave me a blog comment so I can locate your email in my feed.
    2. globalgirl
Thanks, Debbit. Will promote your site on one of my blogs. I still think you should reconsider your departure as the community has so many interesting and friendly people. This medium can be challenge to "get to know you" but over time, it is possible to gain understanding of one another. All the best to you and your work and thanks for the compliment.
  8. debbit
I did pull the blogs. I will remain a member, but not active until the bullies have found their souls. Thanks again for all the support! You will go far!
    1. crpitt
I think thats a deeply unkind thing to say.
    2. offendedblogger
Wow, I was about to actually go see about donating too.
    3. debbit
crpitt---what is unkind? the culture of bullies is not kind.
Offended blogger..the site still exists.just not at BC
  9. clioandme
Debbit, You write, "the bullying must stop." Let's be clear about something. Do you see the first response in this thread? It's from you. And it is mean. This wasn't the first time either. You threw an advanced academic degree in someone's face yesterday when they disagreed with you on a political point. You discounted another person's statement because of his relative youth and your life experience.

As for my above questions, they are legitimate and remain unanswered. If the charity aspect is important to you, you could just explain what needed explaining and maybe work out a way to make things more transparent for possible donors. You could try to engage us in blog posts about your cause, etc. Or you could take the path you have chosen, which is counterproductive to say the least. Believe it or not, my criticisms and Globalgirl's initial questions could be quite useful for you.
  10. debbit
believe it or not stoneman...I don't care anymore what you have to say. You're crass, hard and non supportive. Yes I threw my degree in someone's face. my first response is not mean. grow up.its factual. when you can logically argue reality I will speak to you. you didn't look at the site throroughly and yes you're a bully. I do not feel the need to answer you until and unless you thoroughly look at the site and understand what it is about. I don't think that I need to take you to school, you are afterall an educator and I think you can understand language that is written for a fifth grader. Its as transparent as it can get. $1=link and memory page. Larger donations go directly to First Giving for handling through them to the foundation. How simple can it get? Your critcism is founded on not caring to understand what it is all about and I'm through trying to explain it to you.
And if you think that I haven't been around the block a few times, then you're mistaken. People like you are the first to shout unfair when someone disagrees with you. In political discourse its common to find disagreement. Good luck to your stoneman. I'm glad I never encountered you in a class room environment. You truly are an interesting individual. But you must remember that because you hide behind a screen doesn't mean you're all knowing, all seeing.
Leave Global Girl out of this. This was your battle, you picked it.
  11. debbit
And just for you stoney...another exclamation point! If you don't get that its to build some enthusiasm, then that's sad. That's why the exclamation point was invented. As opposed to SHOUTING.
  12. clioandme
    I rest my case.
  13. debbit
what ever...when the judge comes we'll see who'll be around...
  14. debbit
And again you still haven't read and understood anything to do with the site.Imagine that.
