(Cat)astrophe

Not being ready for fatherhood or facing the challenges of gay adoption, my husband I am quite satisfied just having our 3 cats. As all pet owners know having a pet can bring great joy to ones live but they can also sometimes be the source of many head aches. Having had 2 of my cats now for almost 10 years and the youngest for 4, what they have brought to my life has ranged from pure pleasure to pure frustration.

MEOW. 2 Cats and 1 Dog at home ... would rather do away with the mutt, but my wife would kill me in a heartbeat.
  2. dbowles1017
I like cats, because they are fun to kick.

I like dogs because they aren't useless like cats.
    1. dbowles1017
      not for kicking they don't.
    2. cuteptaguy
That's just mean, cats are so much smarter than dogs!
    3. roentarre
My God. Cats are not easy to kick though ...
    4. hatingtherain
no, but they're easy to throw against curtains, they usually stick

(you know I'm joking, I love cats)
  3. amrhima
I never really liked having a pet, they seem more stupid than those in the movies
  4. wagerwitch
I'm an ALL critter kinda person.

    I even like Dbowles.
    1. dbowles1017
      -.- (that means I'm not impressed ;p)
    2. Sam1982
Oh man you let that one go - I would have thrown in a "donkeys are people too" comment
    3. wagerwitch
      Wellllllllll since you mentioned it...

      Donkeys ARE people too!
  5. AdolfoBlogs
    I have no preference.
  6. Rozie818
We are a straight family and we love dogs, but we wouldn't stand for any abuse towards any animal. -.- Be impressed. :-) Towards humans abuse them - Yes!
  7. timethief
I love all animals. I have recently lost a dog and I have decided that I will be getting two puppies in the near future.
  8. boytrotters
I like both... as long as they're friendly and aren't going to eat me.
  9. Rozie818
@TT, good for you. You'll see it will ease the pain. I have lost family and never replaced them with no regrets. But, pets are special.
    1. timethief
Without doubt my dog was special but so were my horses and they lived to be 32 years old. I'm not prepared to take on rescuing and raising any more horses but I am prepared to take on two small dogs.

      P.S. I also have a cat.
  10. cuteptaguy
I prefer cats as they are more independent, less needy and when they show you affection they truly mean it. I think the are smarter than dogs as they truly know how to manipulate the human race in getting exactly what they want - world DOMINATION! Ha Ha Ha!!!!!
    1. Friday13
Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
    2. roentarre
And cats can devour the owners as soon as owners are deceased but still luke warm...
  11. cuteptaguy
Hmmm, Friday13 sound familiar as it do sometimes feel like that in my house!
  12. amybyrd21
I am a dog person. I have had no luck with cats. The last one I owned attacked my hubby for taking it out of the car. It hit the tree when he slung it off his hand. It died because of that tree and he had to have stitches. So no more cats for us.
  13. egenie
My son would get really sick when he was around cats, so although I like other people's cats, I would not want to have any.
  14. yoonseon
    I prefer dogs, myself...
  15. Selvia
Dogs are nice but I do not like cats. Overall I love to rare fishes.
  16. FredSr2009
    Gold fish for me.
  17. Selvia
I just asked my hubby this questioned when he walked in and he answered that he is a dog and cat person . For all I know he meant it in a dirty way.
  18. cuteptaguy
I guess some people can be both then.
  19. deviki
    i'm a dog person !!!!!!!!!
  20. cuteptaguy
I haven't seen any Fish, Bird, Hamster of Rabbit people ;-)
  21. SweetViolet
I love cats but my allergies to them are just too strong now for me to have them any more.

Instead I have small, non-shedding dogs that are allergy-friendly. The Yorkie is almost like having a cat, though.
    1. bsilvia
You should try acupuncture, thanks to the acupuncture - my hubby now don't have any allergy problems!
And, yes, we have a cat.

I prefer cats too, from the same reasons as yours cuteptaguy
    2. SweetViolet
It is rather moot at this point...we have three dogs and have made arrangements for a new puppy in October...I'm not thinking this is a very cat-friendly house anymore!
    3. cuteptaguy
I'm also actually allergic to cats, but I think my body have build up a tolerance with the 3 I have now. It's just when I go away for business trips and I come back that my allergies act up for a few days.

I am actually more of a horse/mule person. Growing up (and as an adult) I packed mules in Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. I had constant company with one horse and 9 mules.

I've always had a dog, except my last Blue Heeler died a few years ago, and I haven't had the heart to replace him. Although he was a working cow dog, he was also allowed in the house.

We have two house cats and a few barn cats. I tend to fein disgust with the cats, but one of them thinks I am alright.

I guess I am really an animal person. And, my wife thinks I'm an animal. :))
    1. SweetViolet
I loved my Arab mare, Tia, (wasn't so fond of the running quarter that tossed me or the mustang with the tendency to cowkick) but keeping horses is WAY more work than I want to do anymore.

My Dad prefers mules over horses...says they are smarter!
    2. cuteptaguy
I love horses too, just a pity I can't keep one in my back yard, that would just be crewl.
    3. SweetViolet
I have 1/3 of an acre...enough room for a horse, easily.

Put I'm just not into mucking, throwing hay twice a day, farriers every 6 weeks, worming every 3 months, vet call outs, etc. etc.

WAY more work than I want to do at this stage of my life!
  23. stellak
I have 3 cats, and I absolutely adore them. I love that they are smart and independent but also enjoy my company and being lazy together. They have brought so much joy in my life. I also like that cats have very distinct personalities, all my 3 cats are very different from each other.
    1. cuteptaguy
Sounds like my 3 cats. All 3 also have distinct personalities - all special in their own way!
  24. someoneelseisnew
BOTH! i am also a turtle person and a lizard person. at one time, i was a rat person. (RIP rona and biggie!)
    1. cuteptaguy
Interesting choices in pets. I also had a turtle once and a hamster.
  25. bizmashups
Love dogs. Woof! Be impressed. :-) in response to something incredibly 'manly' or testosterone-fueled.

The More I Get To Know People, The More I Like Dogs.

very profound quote i found and stick by...

    ... im a dog person
  27. janizarzagon
I have two dogs and 4 puppies.
  28. Bonnielona
I like bot...cats are so independent and don't need to go out...dogs are fun to take out and play with at parks. Right now I have fish and a rodent. Yes I said rodent.
    1. cuteptaguy
Why do you have a rodent? Strange pet to have don't you think?
  29. madijay
    i like cats
  30. hatingtherain
    I like dogs

I love cats, but I can't ever have one:(
  31. joreel
I'm both... I'm a dog lover and a cat lover as well.
  32. cuteptaguy
I think I will stay a cat person. They bathe themselves, they are smart (not that i am saying dogs aren't) and they can be low maintenance.
  33. Mariya
    Definitely cat
  34. exit2013
    I'm a dog person...never had a cat before.
  35. amybyrd21
Dog person all the way. Cats hate me. I have tried the cat thing and they end up leaving, attavking one of my family members (had 2 do that my daughter and my hubby) and having to find them new homes or I am allergic to them (One onlsy so far) I own two dogs right now and may be getting another one.
    1. exit2013
...plus, cats don't answer when you call them.
  36. lotusb
I actually like to beleive that I'm a "human" person.

    But that's just me...
  37. flamingpoodle
I'm not a fan of pets.
    1. cuteptaguy
I think you may be one of few ;-)
  38. Wavecrest
We have four little furry feline friends living with us!

Must say dogs can be damned annoying sometimes (as can cats but cats don't usually smell).

    Glen
  39. AnoraPriddle
Dogs, you can take them on walks and bring them just about everywhere :]
  40. melindaville
I'm both! I love dogs and cats--and really, all animals. I sometimes like animals more than humans!
  41. drjay1966
Dogs are like people, but with better personalities.

Cats, on the other hand, are pervs. This article I just read proves it. See the awful truth here: www.salon.com/5things/2009/08/07/man_blames_cat_for_c/index.html
  42. Nomadic
they say dogs have owners....cat's have staff. I'm sure my two pussies would agree
