      Is it that easy to get an account banned? Yes it is. The terms of service every Google Adsense Webmaster accepts, clearly describes the easy do's and don'ts.
      Do use the Adsense approved formats only.
      Do keep your click-through data and income private.
      Don't display Adsense on registration or thank you pages.
      Don't use Adsense code and a competitor's content-targeted advertisement on the same page.
      Don't encourage anyone else to click on ads.
      For a complete list, read the Adsense policies and terms
      www.google.com/adsense/policies
      www.google.com/adsense/terms

    How exactly does this adsense thing work? I got a message on here from someone saying they had gone to my site and given me 3 adsense clicks and wanted me to do the same. I don't have any ads or anything on my page so am I missing something completely? Or is this something that you don't put on your page and someone can just post your site to it? Or was this just someone trying to get some clicks for nothing?
    1. legbamel
      That's what's known as a lie. If you don't use Adsense, then they can't click it and they were just hoping you wouldn't know how to check (or realize that you don't have any ads). I'd take it as an insult to my intelligence and report the click fraud to Google so that they don't get paid for tricking gullible people into clicking their ads.
    2. rickbman
      I figured that is what was going on, but I wasn't sure what adsense was. Besides, I don't click on ads on people sites just because I am asked to. If I like a site then I will click on ads to support the site.
    3. timethief
      @richbman

      What you are doing is called click fraud. It's clearly against the Google Adsense terms of service and policies.

      What advertisers are paying for is to get their ads in front of the eyes of people interested in their products. If you click an ad, do so because you're interested in the product or service, not as a favor.
    5. rickbman
      @timethieft - technically speaking I wouldn't be violating there terms of service because as someone just viewing ads I would have never agreed to those terms. The person who puts their ads on the site agrees to the terms of service not the person viewing the site. Besides, how do you know the site I am clicking ads on uses google ads?

      That being said, I am not one to willy-nilly click on ads just because. I actually keep most ads blocked with an ad blocker. There are a couple sites that I turn ad blocker off for because I like the site and feel I should at least look at their ads. Considering most of these sites are movie sites and I am a movie geek I occasionally see ads that I am at least interested in reading more about. I click on those ads. I can't say they ever result in me buying anything but I do see things that are at least worth clicking to see what they are about.

      I'll go sit in the corner now. ;-)

      @rickbman
      Thanks for being so up front about your ad clicking behavior.
      You are correct about not committing click fraud if you have not signed the contract. But most certainly the intent to defraud advertisers by clicking on ads to benefit your favored website owners is a mindset that pervades the nooks and crannies of the gray matter between the ears of those who lack ethics. I have shared what I have learned about the extent of click fraud and the attitudes of those who are involved in it with my husband. Consequently he won't be wasting any of our advertising dollars on Google Adsense advertising.
    7. rickbman
      Well, I'm not trying to argue even though I do think I was just accused of lacking ethics. The first paragraph of what I just said was meant as rhetorical.

      While I do see the problem with clicking on ads for no reason. I see no problem with blocking ads on most sites except for a few that I like and then clicking on ads they show that interest me. I can actually think of at least two sites that I now visit regularly that I found by clicking on such ads.

    The fraud artists always get caught eventually, then run around complaining about how bad the Big G is because they closed their account.

    For those who don't know how the system works... when you commit click fraud you are not hurting Google, you are hurting the people and businesses that use Adwords, without Adwords there is NO Adsense. Google is protecting their "paying" advertisers who keep the system working.

    Personally, I think the Big G should come down even harder on people that are caught committing click fraud.
  7. busylizzy
    All this mutual clicking. It's kind of orgy-istic!
  8. roguedeals
    I had a client that had to deal with click fraud all the time. In the voice-over industry, apparently, your competitors click on your link a bunch of times so you'll run out of money and thus your link won't show up. I'm sure Google has improved this from back then, but I just remember thinking how unethical you'd have to be to do that. Eww.. makes me sick right down to my core.
  9. timethief
    Also I've been thinking, why block the parasites first?
    Why not report them all to Google Adsense,
    prior to blocking them from your shoutbox ... Bahuuuwwwaa!

    Hell I'm incensed enough to found a Click Fraud Busters group Bahuuuwwwaa!

    Drop me a shout if you want to join the group

    Well seems lot of guys are worried about adds that the blogs display. But do any of you have any idea how Google display these adds by a gmail account and when you use the google search. No one can stop that. The Google analysis the content of your emails , searchers and use that information for the their benefit.

    I will not down one example.

    I had one of my articles published in two blogs without my prior notice. One a wordpress and the other a blogspot one. I informed both companies as it violates the privacy policies . The wordpress took an action and banned the site. But the blogspot still exists.

    thats how the big brother works.

    If you want technical details I can provide many on how google does its ranking and add display.
    1. legbamel
      I don't use G-mail, so I can't comment on that except to point out that Big Brother, as you call it, can't make you use their system.
    2. timethief
      @deco
      You can attempt to rationalize and/or justify your unethical behavior by voluntarily entering contracts and then breaching the terms in them until the cows come home. It will change nothing. Advocating and/or participating in click fraud is a breach of the Google Adsense Terms of Service. Volunteers are not victims. If you do not like the free service you are getting from Google then move on and make another arrangement elsewhere.

    @ Time theif

    So you are the decent guy. Good luck

    Clicking on someone else's ads just devalues the clicks and hurts the blog owner. If honest clicking were done by potential shoppers only, then maybe every 1 in 10 people would make a purchase. Add in extra clicking and now maybe 1 in every 100 people actually make a purchase. This just makes the value of a click less. In the long run, it makes it even harder for a blogger to earn a little adsense money b/c now they need thousands of clicks instead of hundreds to make a buck.

    (runs away before Deco can hit her in the back of the head with a tomato)

    You know... I am afraid that people are getting so paranoid about clicking ads and being accused of click fraud that they are not clicking much anymore even if the ad is advertising something they have been looking for.

    The advertisers pay for the ads, but what good is having your ad displayed all over, and everyone is afraid to click on it..

    I am no way touting click fraud... but sometimes we go too far with who we call ethically challenged... just because they see a interesting ad and click on it.

    If shoppers in a store shopped the way it is suggested here, click only if you buy, then the stores would have no customers, stores are set up to tempt buyers, ads are set up to tempt buyers.

    There is nothing wrong with clicking on an ad that interests you, but it is totally wrong to click on an ad that doesn't just because you want to do a favor or get return the favor clicks...
