The environment, the atmosphere, the toxins around us, child poverty, pride, animal cruelty, nothing? If you had the power within you to make one change in our World, what would it be?

To undo all the damage that's been done to our atmosphere in the past two centuries....
    1. timethief
Seconded. The economic model we have embraced is the “3 legged stool” (economy - environment - society) is a faulty model. The ground for all is the environment and humans are an integral part of it. Without it we have nothing - no economy - no society. Yet so many have bought into the faulty industry driven polluting and depleting model and that I cannot help but despair for our planet, our generation and generations yet to come.
    2. environmentalbooty
I shed tears too. I also shed tears because so many people seem to be asleep in their lives and are not aware of what is going on around them. People are working so hard to survive day to day that they have little time to think of the future, or lack thereof. This is a challenge we must overcome.
    3. timethief
We have established governance that only allows the true stakeholders - citizens of earth - to participate on the fringes of decision-making in a very superficial way. Corporate kings shape all government decisions. The result is that we are living in times of violent corporate assaults being waged against earths’ ecology and against humanity.

Until we recognize that the crisis in the way we humans govern ourselves is due to viewing ourselves as being separate and apart from the environment that sustains all, no real changes will be made.

So yeah, I have to say that I'm with drjay if I could I would choose undo all the damage that's been done to our atmosphere in the past two centuries....

I would like our youth to be pushed towards pursuing passions of an artistic and creative nature instead of those which result in the largest amount of wealth and material possessions.
    1. AlexGreat
I agree. But I would add that it's most probable that these passions of creativity will lead to wealth both spiritual and material.
    2. environmentalbooty
Guys, take a look at this when you get a chance

      www.ted.com/index.php/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html

Is there a way to post links here? Anyway, this will give you hope that there are others out there that perhaps share your feelings and are working to make changes in our education system.
    3. Rich
Ken is right. Most people have to unlearn before they can be creative.
  3. AlexGreat
    I would eliminate stupidity.
Then the rest of the problems should then just get fixed almost automatically
    1. environmentalbooty
What do you think causes all of the stupidity?
    2. drjay1966
I would say that it's the fact that some parts of our brains are more developed than others. Thus, we're intelligent to come up with technology that can destroy the very air, water, and ecosystem that we depend upon to live, but we lack the intelligence to use it wisely.
    1. environmentalbooty
Yes I think that is it Hawaiibadboy or maybe the peanuts.

I would undo the loss of plankton in our oceans. That, of course would mean undoing the atmospheric damage done by chlorofluorocarbons and pollution of waterways with wastes.

20 years ago, oceanographers would have no trouble scooping up plankton by the buckets. Now I hear reports of barely an inch in a bucket.

Plankton is fundamental in the oceanic food chain as well as the single greatest generator of oxygen from carbon dioxide. Depletion of plankton would result in collapse of fisheries and accelerated global warming, more so than the demise of rain forests.
    1. environmentalbooty
I have never really thought about plankton. I will now. Living in FL I have seen the oceans change in just the last 20 years.
    1. Rich
Gee, what did you say? Oh, right. You can't say.
    2. environmentalbooty
I thought you were referring to toxins in our food supply. I guess I have a little to learn.

I would like to change the earth's rotation. Have it spin in the other direction for a while.
    1. environmentalbooty
I always feel like I am spinning in the other direction!

I would like the world to give up on fear. We're much too afraid these days.

    copywriteink.blogspot.com/2009/02/unconditioning-fear-change.html
    1. AlexGreat
I think fear is caused by lack of understanding we fear the unknown.

I would change the teaching - whatever teaching taught us this - that the ends justify the means, and for whatever reason, the ends with the worst means always seem to include money and power.

So, I would have to change the ideology that money and power are relevant to society.

In doing so, humans would be more earth conscious, people conscious, animal conscious etc...meaning that the damage to the Earth that we've caused would be downplayed, at least if not changed entirely, the abuse of other humans and animals would only be done by the truly sick (and they would find some sort of help - while protecting potential victims from any harm), there would be no poor, no oppressed, and equality would prevail.

because really, if you think about it, almost every problem in today's society is a direct result of greed and entitlement.
  13. wehireu
    Introduce much more compassion.
  14. morgantj
    remove people
    1. environmentalbooty
There are some people that actually adhere to this aren't there?
    2. morgantj
People that adhere to removing people? Yea. Some people remove themselves, we call it suicide. Some people remove others, we call it murder. The point I was driving towards is that without people, the probability of the planet flourishing is greater. With people, you might as well say by-by to the entire planet. We are unresourceful and selfish, and will kill and destroy all other species and use up all the planets resources in no time at all.
    3. environmentalbooty
NO WE WON'T! Yes I am yelling that to you. We can save ourselves and it is people like you and I who will do it. Thanks for getting back to us. I really have heard of movements of people who want to get rid of people and wondered if you knew of such a movement. Thanks again.

Have everyone except boundary lines as they are and no more fighting over who owns what piece of land.
    1. environmentalbooty
I stand in awe of the level of intelligence or thoughtfulness I have found on BC. What a great Valentine's Day gift! Intelligent thought...where have you guys been?
  16. Hangingonahyphen
I would like to see a world where there is a limit to both wealth and poverty. I mean, how could we let some few folks live the life with riches beyond their needs while the others starve? If I can, I would steal from the rich and distribute the bounty to the poor. Those who have the means to help should not wait to see people die of hunger before they lift a finger to do something.
  17. dosox
    I'll have more poets
    1. environmentalbooty
Poetry surrounds us don't you think? It is just a matter of getting people to really hear it.
  18. sensico
I would like it if less people were cruel to animals.
    1. environmentalbooty
Thank goodness there are so many organizations to help! Are you involved in any of them. That could be a way for you to make a difference. I bet you are one of those who helps out every animal you can...?
  19. rmaxwell142
I'd like to get the world to the point where we don't have to rely on oil for everything.
    1. environmentalbooty
Petroleum based products are in and used for so many things from face cream and body lotions to dry cleaning applications. I think petroleum has really harmed us in ways other than reliance on our vehicles to lollute our planet.

I couldn't find an email for you anywhere or a shout box. I wanted to let you know that one of your google ads at the top of your blog is messed up.

A better BC connection for environmentalbooty. Glad you resolved your browser issues, and welcome back!
    1. environmentalbooty
I think I have resolved a few issues with my system and things have been great today! Nice to see you.
  23. aningeniousname
I'd ban marzipan and those moulded hard plastic packets things like USB flash drives or cheap MP3 players come in.
I nearly forget that white polystyrene packaging. I hate that stuff unpacking anything now is like some hellish Gitmo interrogation session.
    1. gtally
Marzipan emoticon smileys for you, donkeh. :0

      (You're welcome.)
    2. environmentalbooty
What is marzipan? I wonder if that plastic moulded covering is recyclable? Plus what is the deal with those little white packing things? Does anyone know what can be done to that packing crap (from tiny balls to bigger peanuts) besides re-use?
