advertising is dead..marketers no need to market products anymore as consumers are over-advertised..

There is no proof on this. The only way I will believe, is that it is a fact that consumers do not have money that when targeted with improper advertisement it will be useless that it looks dead.

Not dead, it just needs something new

it is kind of true that the advertising is getting boring and more boring

advertising done to the masses is boring and no longer resonates with consumers, however the closer you can get to tailoring your message to the individual, the more effective it becomes. This presupposes that the message is being delivered in authentically.

I suppose you are right Tony B..

In other words advertisers are seeking to get my information so they can tailor a message specifically to my desires to buy a product or service. This is why business is becoming more intrusive than government.

thats where being authenticity comes in. We are all sick of corporate intrusion and manipulation. The companies that do well are the one's that are authentic and speak to as on equal footing without manipulation.

I tend to despise advertising...I even wince handing people my business card! I haven't watched television regularly in more than five years, and I have ad blocking programs installed in my internet browser at home and at work. I avoid advertising like the plague - dangling carrots in front of people to entice them to spend the physical manifestation of their energies on STUFF just gets to me.

That being said - I trust a friend's suggestion and advertising by word of mouth much more than a posted advert when it comes down to making a decision for a purchase.

IMO advertising is still alive but consumers are spending their money more wisely, if at all. Economic hardship will make any advertising campaign less profitable. That doesn't mean that it was less effective.

I detest advertisments - especially on tv.

I'm not naive enough to believe the "doctors" and "patients" in commercials that also appear as token actors in sitcoms.

I hate that no matter what station you're on, the commercials are somehow broadcast at twice the volume as the programming.

When I think of ads, all that comes to mind is "Head on - apply directly to the forehead!!!!"

Yes, it's useless on me. I actually refuse to buy products because I detest their ads so much.

Now every website I go to has annoying pop ads. It's sickening.

My biggest pet peeve is networks that constantly advertise for themselves. I'm already watching you!!! I don't need a reminder every darn break of what you have coming up at 8PM!!!!

I'm with you. One of my favorite things about New Zealand was that once you got out of Auckland, there wasn't an advertisement in sight. No billboards, no bus stops, nothing but trees, waterfalls & sky. Lovely.
Remember when TV actually WENT OFF THE AIR at the end of the broadcast day, back when there were only 13 channels?

Kdawg - if you use Firefox as a browser, you get less popups. Especially if you download the "AdBlock Plus" and "Stop Autoplay" add ons! It is all free, and AdBlock Plus blocks just about every banner ad I've come across, and Stop Autoplay allows you to CHOOSE to play a Flash banner, video, or song.

It's the only way I can stand to be online, and I'd never go to Myspace without it!

No "shoot the ducks" or "who is this celebrity" or "10,000 visitor!!!!!"... it is bliss!!!

Advertising is never going to die. It will always be the way big brands remind us they are the big brands. Bad advertising tries to make a sell – that’s what makes all the noise. Good advertising strategically builds a brand.

I hope advertising dies as it is in it's present form.

Advertising is excessive and adds to the product cost especially when it is not informative, only persuasive.
Advertising exaggerates and often tells big lies.
It is intrusive, ie too overbearing on some web sites, too loud on TV, too prominent in public places.
Advertising is ruthless in targeting children.
And inflates consumerism, harms the environment.

Advertising can sell junk as needs, garbage as food.

    It's just wrong!

I agree completely. It also spreads insecurity & selfishness. I doubt much is going to change anytime soon, unfortunately.

thanks for the feedbacks..As for me, I don't mind advertisements but depends on what they are selling..not all products have good advertising..some even boring..

Well the PR people have been claiming since the seventies that advertising is out. Now we see alot of talk about web 2.0 making advertising irrelevent - just another PR (scare) sales tactic.

"Minority Report" advertising type coming soon...

If you ever have the chance, I recommend renting The Ad and The Ego (1997). It is a compelling documentary, I used to introduce media literacy when I was teaching high school English in a former life.
