I like to change mine. When I do change it, I change it for most every site I use an avatar.

It is probably not a good idea to change it too often. People use avatars to identify you on a site.

I know one individual on another site that sometimes changes his avatar daily. The community is kind of used to it now, but the constant change is a little confusing sometimes.

I do agree with you on this. But don't you think it's boring looking at the same avatar?
    1. dotartdude
      Yes. That's why I've changed it again.:D
  3. wandadog13
It would be unless you were a handsome devil like me!!

yes I think it's boring to have the same avatar. I change mine a couple of times if I found a "better" one, but I informed my friends, communities, and forum pals why I changed. Anyways, just went back to my original avatar w/c is Philippine Eagle as a sign of being a good Filipino. Although I thought it would be better if I use that "intelligent cat", and quite artistic...

I do change avatars once in 4-5 months and I do use my own picture wherever possible!

Changing it regularly sounds like fun!

If you like your avatar, I don't see the need to change. People get used to a certain avatar and associate it with you. When you change it, it confuses people However, I did decide to finally show my face...

I wonder if changing the avatar causes a drop in traffic.

I like knowing who is visiting my site by looking at the avatars I can tell who is a regular visitor then I can make a conscious effort to visit their blog but if the avatar changes its hard to know who is coming and going :o)

Oh! I just read that changing your avatar causes a drop in your ranking in Blogcatalog

Mine is Knuit, the baby polar bear in Germany last year that made the news. He was a lost abandoned child which I would have been more than happy to adopt.

I think changing it can be bad since people tend to view it as you, they become use to seeing the picture and knowing who it is.

I would say that if it ain't broke don't fix it.
    1. footiam
Mm...mm... there would not be any changes then for a very lonnngg.. time

People like consistency. Don't change it too often, unless you have a tendency for choosing phallic images.
    1. offendedblogger
So what you are saying is that you enjoy a variety of phallic images? Interesting, me too!!
    2. freeatlast
      isn't everything phallic?
      :-)

I change mine and I change it often. The first day I was Father Jack Hackett, because first impressions are quite important. Then I was Patsy Stone, and now...this.

    Tomorrow, who knows!

    Maybe Mr. Bean!

I think we need to start a thread just for all the rainbowy people. And another just for the cute arctic critter people...
    1. footiam
Maybe, we should change one come every new year!
  13. footiam
Thanks for all the responses, dear!

I don't think it's a good idea unless your avatar is your pictures. Otherwise, if you have some weird abstract and then you change it to some other, how are people supposed to know that it's still you?
    1. footiam
This is a great idea. Thanks!
  15. GlossGreen
I didn't think my last one fit the name I have. This one does that in spades. Changing my avatar was the best thing for me to do. Just look in the threads here, mine stands out every time.
  16. footiam
mm... yes, yours really stands out. Maybe, I should think of changing mine too. .. to fit the name, that is!
  17. JDeppette
Yes... Changing Avatars will draw attention to the 'newbie' or 'unknown'

I do it every so often
    1. footiam
      Oh! Johny Depp!
  18. barkhousefamily
I use www.meez.com for my avatar. I change it with nearly every post.
  19. footiam
    Isn't that too fast?
  20. crpitt
I would never change my avatar to create attention.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
No... No... Nononono... Well-- a bit.
    2. crpitt
Are you Vicar Of Dibleying me?
    3. libdrone
Vicar of Dibley????? do tell, that sounds interesting in an Anthony Trollope sort of way
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
No, I was Monty Pythoning you.
    5. footiam
There shouldn't be any harm in creating attention.
    6. footiam
It's all right to create attention in this blog world, I suppose!
  21. Kiwipulse
Don't change it more often, people will not recognize you easily. Well if you change it, change it for something more attractive than your previous one.
    1. footiam
      Good advice. Thanks
  22. globalgirl
If it feels good, do it.
    1. footiam
If it doesn't, don't. Good idea.
  23. chrissymarie321
I change my avatar to my most recent painting....
  24. nardeeisms
I changed mine once and only once. No plans to do so in the immediate future. But, who knows? - Nards

      Let the moods!
  25. successlog
i am just happy with my current avatar.lol
    1. footiam
Perhaps, you'll get bored with it later and change it?
  26. Sebastyne
I solved this issue by reusing some elements in the avatar when I change it. I knew I would get bored of the same avatar, so I had to think of something to keep constant - the orange bits. It doesn't matter in small communities if you change your avatar all the time, but on massive ones like this it's easy to forget who's who and every little bit helps.
    1. wastedlola
      nice idea 8)
  27. acousticguitarist

  28. footiam

    1. siralmo
