Is there a niche for poetry blogs?

My younger sister is really good at writing poetry but is discouraged b/c her poetry blog gets almost no traffic. I explained to her different ways to promote it, but I also wonder if there's much of a niche for poetry. I'm not really into poetry, but if I were, I think I would probably want to read poems of established famous poets.
What do you think? Is there a potential readership out there?

There is a real niche for poetry. You may not get heavy traffic, but people who are into it will definitely search you out. Tell her also to get her stuff into other people's blogs, to visit other blogs, leave comments etc and not to lose hope. It's a pity you didn't give her link, as I'm sure there are several people like me who would have liked to visit.
Reading poems by established poets provides cultural stimulation, but not much interactivity. -

I can understand her frustration. My blog (thehumblepen.blogspot.com) began as a platform for me to share my poetry but also discuss how poetry is still relevant in today's world. Because I'm just a regular person and not a well-known poet or publisher, I was not able to generate too much interest or traffic to my blog, and I think that is just reality. I, too, was discouraged by this have since changed topics, but poetry will always be my first love.
I am always looking for blog about poetry because 1) it's a topic I enjoy; 2) it's encouraging to read others' work which helps me to improve my own work and 3) it's always great to connect with people who share your interests.
You're a nice sister for trying to help her. Please share her URL and I will definitely check it out. -
It is not easy to attract huge traffic easily for a Poetry blog. But as my blog has many other creative writing, apart from poetry, I get lots of traffic.

You can tell her to join some forums in this niche. This will help her to submit her poems for getting some exposure and read and comment on other poets' works. Some such are:

www.writing.com -
There sure is a readership for poetry. Your sister should never be lose faith, although traffic to poetry blogs is not massive you can gain a regular readership through good promotion.
www.allpoetry.com is a good place to publish poetry and get good constructive advice. They also run free to enter competitions which can help promote her poetry.

I was a member of All Poetry for a while and found that membership somewhat useful. There are a lot of talented writers who have ventured onto that site over the years and who are willing to offer constructive feedback. The vast majority of members however are only interested in having you read their work and a lot of them wouldn't know the first thing about writing poetry or critiquing other's work and aren't interested in learning. They already assume they know it all and think just because a row of lines goes ababab that it is now called a poem.
It's unrealistic to expect that the Internet is going to deliver you stardom particularly in the niche area of poetry. Write and share for your own enjoyment first and foremost, but don't be disheartened if your blog gets little traffic. It shouldn't discourage you from writing. -
I agree with the comments above. I've been thinking of posting poetry on-line and, as with any other art-form, it should comply or compliment and be born out of the medium on which it is created. Most poems are too long for the computer screen because I think poems should be able to be pondered on without scrolling. Then people could leave the poem up and look at it for a good while, while they were pottering around - I would much prefer to sit with a book of poems, than scan them on a computer screen.
This is just a subjective opinion, but it may be of some use.

One of my blog followers is a haiku blogger. This blogger gets a lot of visitors. I don't really know where he get those - but most of these are haiku bloggers like him.
There is indeed a potential readership for poetry bloggers. I suggest that your sister should connect to other poetry bloggers because they share the same interest. -
Poetry is one of my deepest passions! I actually was posting poetry last year (when I had time) once or even twice a week on myspace and had a very strong readership. Myspace is a great place for getting recognized in certain categories but it is hard to get your myspace friends off myspace...meaning if you write there they will comment but not as much if you post on your own site...

There is most certainly a niche for poetry blogs. There are tons of poetry blogs out there by folks who just want to express themselves, don't think of poetry-writing as a craft, or a skill, and don't much care whether their poetry is "good" by literary standards. She should be able to find those blogs easily, and, if it suits her, to comment and join the communities she finds there.
For more serious poets, who are working on form and language and craft, there are also several poetry blogs, forums, and communities. Many are listed here: www.sbpoet.com/poetry-links.html
My Watermark blog is fairly popular, given that it's primarily a poetry blog.
