I have been looking at site that you can sign up, sometimes pay, and a link to your site ends up on other websites which in turn can drive more traffic and increase your page rank.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this type of service?

well usually if you link ends up on other sites it is for a reason, you can buy thousands of $ worth of advertisement andd traffic and get traffic from only one site, while on the other hand, you can get a link or a review for free on a blog, and it'll drive massive amounts of traffic.

It depends on what your goals are, if you're looking to simply drive traffic, there are tons of ways, but if you're looking to get people interested in your work, posts and articles, spending a thousand bucks may not be the first thing you wanna do.

Can you clarify a little, i'm sure someone on the discussion board can help you out a little more

Hey JP thanks, I am kind of new to the lingo and how bloggers go about networking.
I am not really looking for just traffic, there's no point unless a person is trying to make money.
I just came across some sites about link exchanges that helps the page rank.
Just wondering if anyone has used any of these sites and if they have had good results.

It's very unlikely that a straight link exchange is going to help your page rank, especially if the site you're exchanging links with has a large number of outgoing links on the page where your link appears and/or isn't really relevant to the subject matter of your site/page.

Placement of links to drive traffic and draw customers may be a different issue (and one that isn't really within my area of expertise), but if you're looking to boost page rank and search rankings, links that are natural or have the appearance of being natural (ie: not all recipricol, not on 100 pages of the same site, coming from a site that's relevant to your site/page) will bring a lot more benefit.

So basically link with other blogs. With my travel blog I should link with other travel blogs or even blogs that I like and they like mine ?

There are a lot more factors to consider, like the credibility/traffic of the site or blog in question, but travel blogs or travel-related sites will be good for you, (or even specific destination-related sites, or recreational activity sites...for instance, a site dedicated entirely to scuba diving or to Paris could be a good match for a travel site/blog). Relevance doesn't necessarily mean an exact match, and there's nothing wrong with getting links from unrelated blogs--they don't carry the kind of downsides that "linkfarm" type pages do, they just won't help you as much as the better matches.

Forget link exchange projects, most of the listed sites are MFA sites or from a bad concept. If you need some links contact the webmaster from the website where you like to trade a link. Check also the forums for link exchanges (DP, sitepoint, etc). Check also this article about my experience with link exchange programs:

I have found that simply reaching out and networking with similar sites has been really effective and free. I started a Banner Exchange page a while back that has really assisted with promotion as well.

Banner exchange pages are synonymous with link pages, except you are using images over text. Nobody looks at them either.

Blogrolls are sitewide and have more impact in the eyes of the search engines. The blog is telling them that they whole-heartedly endorse those links. Getting on one of these, or using the networking idea to bring several link-minded blogs together will enormous impact.

Another way to get unsolicited backlinks is to write posts of interest that will get referenced by somebody else. If you really start to get noticed then you may wind up on their "Blogs I Like" list (same as a blogroll, but you do not return the favor)

I'm new to blogging too! But I don't believe in paying for link exchanges. I believe the best traffic to get to your site is the traffic you create. I have spent the past two days looking for blogs about social bookmarking to link to mine! It's not easy. Because it's all so confusing. LOL

how about Text link ads, have you been trying it? see blogosquare.com/tla.php

there you add yourself as an advertiser, that's putting your link on someone's else blog/sites OR publisher, therefore putting other links on your blog. You decide.

I used to have a few blog services sites that were PR5-6. I never participated directly in link exchnages for those sites, although the sites ended up being linked to by a decent number of bloggers who used/recommended the sites, which is what helped drive the PR up I think.

Wow, such great advice I don't know if I need to add anything, but I suppose I'll give my two cents just in case. SEO is one of those complicated, ever-changing things. With blogs, I think the best thing is to focus on writing good copy (keyword-enriched, but reader-friendly) and then work up from there. Joining communities like this one is a great idea and making friends. Link exchanging is a popular choice. There are some sites like www.linkexperts.com and www.textlinks.com who charge to do link exchanging for you, but simply asking website owners often works well too.

Then there is just adding your blog to a number of blog search engines and constantly updating and chatting with other blog users.

You'll be just fine. If you genuinely care about your blog, it will become a success because you invest the time in finding answers.

Hope that helps, if you want more advice, drop me an email at kate@starmedia.ca

Hi! Create traffic by writing articles and participating in forums. You will get valuable one-way links back to your site/blog which in turn will help your search engine ranking. I use these methods to market my blog, and it seems to be working!

Well i think the easiest and safe one is just make a good article and try to blogwalking and give a good comment for their article, of course don't do spam. Everyone hate spam. I suppose you know the different between giving a comment and spamming. Well that's my answer. Just try have fun with blogging.
