I love having my back massaged! My shoulders and lower back always ache thanks to my mother's genetics in the chest region lol Getting a professional massage is always soothing and relaxing.
The only thing I don't like is the oils. They're nice when being used but as soon as the massage is over they make my skin feel gross.-
@filinsk....Yes the back is a great area to work.
During the day as people sit in one position in an uncomfortable chair or cubicle all day long, when you finally get home your whole body aches for some relief and a good back rub helps
to take the tension off dramatically.
I myself prefer hot bubble baths with Eucalyptus or Mint Oils but I am careful just to add a few drops or else you become too slippery and fall in the bath tub and injure yourself.
I understand what you mean though about becoming too slippery gross feeling if you add too much oil to the skin. Who wants to feel like a slippery, pruney, wet fish?

Massaging the feet and hands is also a great area to dramatically reduce tension.
1st discovered and perfected in the far East, foot and hand reflexology works different parts
of the body and you will be surprised at the release in tension after trying these methods.

List of essential oils
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_essential_oils
Jeunelle personally loves:
Eucalyptus oil, historically used as a germicide.
Commonly used in cough medicine, among other medicinal uses.
Myrrh oil, warm, slightly musty smell. Used medicinally.
Peppermint oil, used in a wide variety of medicinal applications.
Patchouli oil, very common ingredient in perfumes.
Rosemary oil, distilled from the flowers of Rosmarinus officinalis. Used in aromatherapy,
topically to sooth muscles, and medicinal for its antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Rosewood oil, used primarily for skin care applications. Also used medicinally.
# Sage oil, used medicinally.
Sandalwood oil, used primarily as a fragrance, for its pleasant, woody fragrance.
Spearmint oil, often used in flavoring mouthwash and chewing gum, among other applications.
Tea tree oil, distilled from Melaleuca alternifolia, used medicinally. Being a powerful antiseptic, antibacterial and antiviral agent, tea tree's ability to fight infection is second to none.

i can't get past the first question: "where do you like to be massaged". the answer is exactly why i don't get massages. so i take matters into my own hands (well so to speak).

Just five miles from the ranch is a natural hot springs called Castle Hot Springs. Since living out here, I've been befriended by the caretakers and every Saturday morning I head down to the springs for a nice soak. Even in the middle of the desert, I have my own oasis. Here's the history of the place - it's pretty interesting.
In 1865 Col. Charles Craig, commander or troops at Prescott's Fort Whipple, pursued a group of Indians that has just raided nearby mining camps. This pursuit ended when the troops defeated the Indians and stopped to rest at what is now known as Salvation Peak. The surrounding peaks resembled castles and a creek at the bottom prompted the men to name the area Castle Creek. After finding the elusive "magic waters", or hot springs, of the Apaches, they named the area Castle Hot Springs. Four hundred thousand gallons a day fill the 3 natural pools to this day.
In 1896 the first "resort" opened here listing a long list of ailements the hot springs would cure. Many more buildings were completed between 1900 and 1905. The famous "Palm House" burned down in a fire that happened December, 1976. During the 1920's and 30's many famous people visited the resort often enough to have their own Bungalows built. These families include the Wrigleys, Vanderbilts, Weinberg's, Rockefellers and even Zane Grey. During this time the resort installed the first telephone in arizona and its number was "1".
During WWII the resort was used for troop rehabilitation. Over the next 30 years the resort continued to operate until a devastating fire in 1976 . Since then only a caretaker remains and the resort has changed hands many times. Much remains including the main house, the employee house, the movie theatre, swimming pool (supposedly the largest free form pool in the world), golf course and more.

I'm also a masseuse and an aromatherapist and have posts on my site pertaining to the same.

Aromatherapy for Colds, Flu and Sinusitis
thistimethisspace.com/2007/10/05/aromatherapy-for-colds-flu-and-sinusitis/
(1) There are a number of excellent therapists in your locality and referring to your telephone directories should provide you with a massage therapist or clinic in your area.
(2) Your therapist will want to get to know about you on your first visit and will prepare a personal case history based on a number of questions he/she will ask. In order for the therapist to provide you with the best suited therapy during your session these questions are important and will touch upon medical, social, personal information as well as your family history of illnesses, etc. Based on the information compiled the therapist will then design a treatment specifically for you.
(3) It is important for you to feel at ease with your therapist and it is the practitioner’s job to make you feel comfortable and explain to you what they will be doing.
(4) Always let your therapist know what you are planning to do after your massage.
(5) If you are planning to have an Aromatherapy Massage, i.e. a massage combined with pure essential oils, it is best not to have a shower or bath for approximately eight hours as this period of time is needed to allow the full absorption of the oils into the body. The carrier oils used for massage will be based on your skin type.
(6) Finally when your session is complete your therapist will allow you some quiet time to relax on your own before getting up and heading off and continuing your day.

Do you enjoy treating yourself and what does it do for you?-
@Jeunelle
I ran out of time above to answer your last question which is: Do you enjoy treating yourself and what does it do for you?
Yes, I enjoy treating myself. I live with chronic pain and I choose not to use any drugs, so aromatherapy, massage and hot tub type treatments are essentials for me when it comes to coping with pain and maintaining my health.
Ahh ha ... we have a cross-over area of interest. This is cool
-
@timethief...YES I do find that treating yourself helps with pain and relieves stress and tension.
Also there are several products out on the market now to help with pain, stress, tension fatigue, foot and back problems.
If you walk crocked, you will have back and foot pain. This product can help.
Aligning your back is very important and can also decrease headaches.

Light therapy does work, I have this product at home and highly recommend it,
worth ever penny.

timethief...yes you must try to find relief anyway you can.
I also use at home a machine called Homedics therapist select professional massager.
This is ideal for single people who do not have a set of extra hands available to help massage those trouble spots. Worth every penny. I also got one for my Mother and she loves it.
www.egeneralmedical.com/homedics-therapist-select-pa-100-professional-percu...
I usually take a nice hot bath and use this massager right before bed and I sleep much better because of it. It is necessary to take good care of yourself and during the day it shows in how well you perform no matter where you go.

Has anyone tried reflexology? Since having reflexology done on my feet, I almost prefer that to back massage! Reflex points in the feet correspond with the whole of the body to release blockages. Something else I've tried is lymphatic drainage - just be ready for a full on detox if you go with that.
As for massage, I like to support independent massage and body work therapists. my favourite carrier oil is jojoba with essential oils like frankincense, rosemary, lemon, pine, sandalwood. The more popular oils like lavender and rose geranium are ok but I seem to like heady, resinous oils better. Myrrh's a bit funky though (not that I dislike it) :-)-
SpiritualBloggers...I am glad you showed up.
YES both reflexology and lymphatic drainage is something that I believe everyone should try. They both work and you will be surprised by the results.

Herbal Teas And What It Can Do For You.
Jeunelle loves drinking herbal teas, especially non-caffeine herbal teas.
I also enjoy fresh squeezed lemon juice in hot boiling water.
This is great for the throat and helps to remove phelgm and other impurities from the body.
www.ageless.co.za/herbal_remedies.htm
www.crazyfortea.com/herblist.html
I usually use a Blood Cleanser formula which includes a collection of:
Yarrow, Sage, Red Clover, Dandelion Leaf, etc.
You can have these herbal teas collected and custom made for your own aliments as seen here:
www.home-herb-garden.com/mail-order-herbs.html
You may also want to be careful and check with your doctor 1st as some people are allergic
to certain teas and spices.
I also bathe with some of these teas and you can also buy fresh and chop them up in the food processor and add it to the bath. Hyssop, basil, sage, etc and you can be creative.
It's a great way to detox. Alfalfa also helps with sink and if you soak in some liquid alfalfa
or even chopped alfafa, you will de-smell. Great for people with sinky feet and arm pits.
This stuff is the bomb and you can also take a teaspoon or so internally for body odor.
Nature's way Cholorfresh liquid chlorophyll

Of course eating chlorophyll and green leafy vegetables and salads will also help you to detox
and remember to drink plenty of water. -
Jeunelle highly recommends these two teas for red, dull eyes and conjunctivitis. (Eyebright & Bilberry)
Both have been used successfully in supporting better vision and clearer eyes, they are also both available in capsule form.

You certainly don't have to wait for your doctor to cure you when you can take matters into your own hands sometimes.
I once had highly Cholesterol in my teens and I purchased some vitamins specifically to help reduce Cholesterol and when I showed them to my doctor he insisted that it would not work.
I didn't listen to that fool and continued to take them for 2 months.
The prescription drugs that he gave me, I didn't even bother to get filled at the pharmacy.
When I went for a follow up visit and he ran some test, he was surprised to see that my high Cholesterol had dropped down to normal.
When he asked me "what did I do"? I responded "I took those herbal pills you said wouldn't work dummy". He then asked me to provide him with the brand name for his patients.
Doctors don't know everything. Most of the time "I AM THE DOCTOR".
Doctor Foster has left the building.

Where do you like to be massaged?
Almost everywhere...but watch out...I'm TERRIBLY ticklish!
Do you find that Therapeutic massage is good for the body and optimal health?
Yup...especially in conjunction with hydrotherapy.
Do you enjoy Spas, Saunas, Bubble Baths, Back Rubs, Foot Rubs?
Gawdess, YES!!!
Do you use Essential Oils and what type of essential oil fragrance do you use and like the most?
I do and in various combinations and depending upon the objective. I do shy away from the hot oils like peppermint, though. Peppermint in a bath can be horridly wicked! A lot of the time I get a mix from an Adept I've known who specializes in these. But for general massage, I use avocado and olive oil in the base, and sometimes almond. You already gave a great list of essential oils.
What do you do to relax and de-stress?
Meditation. Also I post on Blog Catalog.
What places have you been to that gives the best massages, spas and saunas?
I don't use them. We do this at home well enough. If it's something severe requiring a physical therapist, it's time to see the doctor.
Do you enjoy treating yourself and what does it do for you?
Most of my life I haven't known any other way.-
LynneaUrania....Excellent...So I heard you are a bit ticklish. lol
The 1st time I had a massage from a professional, I laughed the whole time
and was so tense in the upper back that he had a hard time keeping me on the table.
I kept flying off the table laughing my butt off, I even took his hands off me a few times
because where he was massaging me was too tense, they had to get 3 people to hold me down. By the time they were finished with me I had already beaten them all up.

Acupunture (personally never tried it but it does seem to do the trick for most people)
video.google.com/videosearch?q=acupunture&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:of... -
I do not like getting any massages, facials, pedicures, or manicures from anyone that I am not intimate with. I will not go to a spa, sauna or other such place.
They freak me out, and I don't like being touched.
However, I do enjoy a good back massage from my husband, an a shoulder massage from a trusted friend. -
Anok....Excellent point....most people do not like being touched.
I do all this in the privacy of my own home, usually on a Sunday which I reserve specifically for all this cleansing body and mind toning stuff.
Also you raised another great point that those manicures and pedicures can turn deadly
and unsanitary.
www.hairstyle-blog.com/manicure-pedicure-was-your-last-one-safe.html
forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=fmsupport&msg=57414.1
I never had a manicure or pedicure in my life outside my home other than me doing it for myself.
One of my friends decided to go get a manicure done and I told him don't bother
but of course he didn't listen and when they were done with him, he looked like a de-clawed cat.
He had no fingernails left to scratch his back.-
I never could see the point in doing something that you could do yourself better at home
but people seem to like the service and pay handsomely for it too.
Massages are a little different though and if you suffer from cronic back pain you may want to bite the bullet and have someone touch and massage you.
I usually have women massage me because the last 3 men I beat up pretty bad and they told me not to ever come back.
-
LOL! I volunteered once to be a guinea pig for a friend who was getting her masseuse license. She gave a deep tissue massage, and it was OK. Granted, I knew and trusted her, so I was a lot more comfortable. I also used to get physical therapy style massages from a friend - to help chronic pain in my shoulder. But he was also a friend, and it was a clothes on, no touching in funny places kind of massage. It did help, and I can totally understand people going in for that.
Just not the whole "spa" thing. *shudder*. I mean, who wants to get covered in mud and then rinse off with a bunch of other mud covered people and sweat with them in a sauna? *yick*. -
Anok...I make my own mud at home and you can too if have some time.
I also make my own homemade essential oil mixture combination.
I seem to love lavendar and a bunch of other essential oils, I also notice that if I place a drop near special pressure points right before bed the next day I wake up with the strength of 10 men and I work right through the night at least 2-3 times a day without any sleep whatsoever.
