One thing is admiring his musical skills immensely. He was undoubtedly a huge performer.

Another thing altogether is understanding an artist's behaviour with young boys. If ANY adult artist had touched or seduced my pre-pubescent sons, I would have been beyond livid.

So my question is: can we love and admire an artist's creativity while disapproving of his personal life? We have many examples: Gauguin permanently deserted his wife and children; Dickens verbally abused his wife; Pollock was a fall-down drunk, Modigliani was a womaniser etc.

Okay I am a bit confused here........... are you saying that womanizing, drunkedness and verbal abusiveness are in the same category as (supposed)PEDIPHILIA?

He was a freak who made amazing music. He was not a person to model your life by.

Police say that MJ died falling over a childs pram-they aren't blaming it on the sunshine, moonlight, good times but they're blaming it on the buggy....

NEWS CHANNELS R SAYING THAT POLICE WILL DO COMPLETE POSTMARTUM BEFORE HIS FUNERAL. SEEMS STRANGE.
ITS TOUGH TO B A CELEBRITY, EVEN AFTER DEATH.

I think majority of people know well about his contribution to the music industry and pop culture. But majority do not know about his philanthropy side as he hid most of them well under radar.

If I may to show my respect to him, here are some charities that Michael has contributed and supported:

    - AIDS Project L.A.
    - American Cancer Society
    - Angel Food
    - Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles
    - BMI Foundation, Inc.
    - Brotherhood Crusade
    - Brothman Burn Center
    - Camp Ronald McDonald
    - Childhelp U.S.A.
    - Children's Institute International
    - Cities and Schools Scholarship Fund
    - Community Youth Sports & Arts Foundation
    - Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)
    - Dakar Foundation
    - Dreamstreet Kids
    - Dreams Come True Charity
    - Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation
    - Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
    - Love Match
    - Make-A-Wish Foundation
    - Minority Aids Project
    - Motown Museum
    - NAACP
    - National Rainbow Coalition
    - Rotary Club of Australia
    - Society of Singers
    - Starlight Foundation
    - The Carter Center's Atlanta Project
    - The Sickle Cell Research Foundation
    - Transafrica
    - United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
    - United Negro College Fund Ladder's of Hope
    - Volunteers of America
    - Watts Summer Festival
    - Wish Granting
    - YMCA - 28th Street/Crenshaw

So to the answer the question, yes Michael is truly an inspiration to me.
    1. gosmelltheflowers
WOW - I had no idea he was involved in all those charities...!

Ok, starting to get sick of the MJ marathons now - I sat up in bed last night with a fever (hopefully not swine flu) and all that was running through my head were the words "you are not alone".

Ok I hope i wont make you more sick with this:

Forget about smelling flowers it is time to wake up and smell the coffee...

Jacko was a weirdo who molested young boys...What possible inspiration do you see in a child molester ?
    1. gosmelltheflowers
That's why I rasied the thread Gerry - is it selective memory we have?!
    2. thetravellingteddi
MJ was acquitted. Get the facts right. Besides, which parent (in the right frame of mind) would sacrifice a child's dignity over a few million dollars? If the boys were molested as claimed, you will ensure, in all of your God's given power and capacity as a parent, that the accused be put behind bars, yes? But they settled it over a few million Benjamins... Sounds like a "get-rich-quick" scam to me Unless that's what they do for a living. Pimp out their sons to celebrities In any case, MJ's protected now. No one can hurt him anymore. May God bless his good soul.

To be fair, he was never found guilty of pedophilia. At best, he was an odd person, probably damaged goods from his insane upbringing. I have to admit that colored my perception of his music, but I was listening to his music the day after he died and remembered that an awful lot of it is quite good. I think it will probably survive longer than his notoriety.
  10. patco
He had a lot of operations...
    1. gosmelltheflowers
Yup, maybe the next transformers movies?
  11. Alcomum
Yes, he was and remains undoubtedly an inspiration.

I have been so annoyed by the re-emergence of all the purely ignorant peadophile comments and allegations and have ranted about it - alcomum.blogspot.com/2009/06/michael-jackson-for-me.html

Obviously people will believe what they want, irrespective of evidence to the contrary.

@Rory - I think your summary is probably the most accurate. He may well have been a "freak" - he was called Wacko Jacko for many years - but he made amazing music. Music would not be what it is today if it weren't for him. And oh for the days when videos related to the lyrics and told a story instead of following the plot of "lets-see-how-many-girls-in-bikinis-we-can-pay-to-get-in-one-place"

In researching and thinking about Michael Jackson,
I came across a song entitled "Childhood".

It seems to speak to us about his life and upbringing...
Only God knows the truth...what really happended or a "victim", if there really were any...

I just wrote a Post, LISTENING TO MICHAEL JACKSON

    Click on jesusknowsyoubest.blogspot.com/

Thanks and let me know what you think...

I'm soo sick of the pedophile jokes. He was never proven to be a child molester! I kind of feel bad for him, he was soo talented but yet, obviously so messed up mentally. Such a sad ending to his life. I just wrote a post about it in my rants in my pants blog.
  13. Annette12
i grew up with Michael Jackson's music. He was a great inspiration to me. I loved his music his music tv.......everything about him even though he had a weird side and those endless plastic surgery operations. I still love his music despite those things. I am so too annoyed about the molestation accusations....there is no proof but if he did ...I don't want to know about it.

    He turned bad really bad.
  16. RelianceRisk
Contrary to his eccentric ways I loved the guy as an artist, and I think a lot of people will find that his untimely departure will put him up amongst the immortal ranks of elvis, monroe, cobain and hendrix. RIP Michael Jackson :-(

In the end all humans are nothing more than dust. Each of these without a doubt had great talent but were mere humans. "The words of the Preacher, the som of David king in Jerusalem. Vanity, of vanities," says the Preacher, "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity." Ecclesiastes 1: 1-2

This was said about Soloman the wealthiest and most talented man of his time. We could say the same thing about the famous people of our time. In the end their great talent and wealth could not save them from death. Vanity of vanities.

It was a sad life. No childhood. No sense of reality. He made a lot of money, but died a pauper being supported by others who hoped to be a part of his next windfall. His life and death provide a poignant picture of the perils of fame and fortune. I wrote a blog entry on this at

I am celebrating the lives of those about me and those who have passed on to the place we shall all be one day. Love, Happiness and Goodness!
  20. mikeny07
He is right up there with Presley and Lennon. He also has the best selling album worldwide.

People shouldn't go into his personal life and should just talk about his music.
    1. gosmelltheflowers
Bit didn't one feed the otheR?
  21. nothingprofound
I'll repeat what I said on another thread:

Why should anyone outside Michael Jackson's personal family and friends be interested in his personal life? I'm certainly not.
    1. gosmelltheflowers
Most of the world are, however as the media circus continues!

I love Michael Jackson. He is one of the most important artists of the century. A great showman. If he had a lot of money and what he did with that, this is not our business and apart from that he spent a lot for donations. There is not such a thing like sexual scandals. This is a fake insight story. In the music industry and show business you have a lot of enemies. I know it, I work in that area as a musician
Anyway here there is a good post ant Michael

When he died, I wrote a post about him called "Michael Jackson and the child in me". It's my tribute to him.

You can read it here americanguts.blogspot.com/2009/06/michael-jackson-and-child-in-me.html if you have the time to drop by.

Michael Jackson's memorial lottery is now open to the world recognizing that he's as much an international star in death as he was
  25. mikeny07
I don't see why people knocked this guy so much. So he liked Peter Pan.

I watch Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones and others, and im not an kid. Am I a nut also?

How do we know who likes Peter Pan? Nobody does a poll. Most adults won't admit it anyway.

I think people have to be more accepting of others, even if they don't like the same exact things as you do.
  26. bonorom
Michael Jackson is a total inspiration. Eventhough Im not a big fan of him, I still believe he is innocent. No one can sing and dance like him.
