I couldn't say what is better. I know i love the Canon series.
1. because they are easy to use. (not saying nikon isn't though)
2. Relatively low cost accessories
3. i like the grip better Especially the vertical
Nikon has the advantage of name when it comes to lenses, but i don't think that canon is that far behind that anyone would ever notice.
Ask a proffessional photographer if he can see the difference between a picture shot with a Canon or a Nikon. The answer will be no.
After that, it comes down to personal preferences. -
Canikon are the same specie with all its glasses supplied by Hoya.
This is a brand royalty hype that is successfully marketed by the consumerism approach.
Olymous, Pentax are really providing some of interesting optical rendering with unqiue features different from the major two.
After all, they are just tools. We use tools to make photopgraphs, not for vanity -

For every Canon lover, there is a Nikon lover and vice versa.
I have a Canon xti. I like it. I don't love it. I don't think my photos are anything to write home about. Of course, most of that is most likely user error because I'm a newbie at DSLR photography but honestly, I'm just not impressed with this camera.
I was just checking out the Nikons at my camera store last week. I'm thinking that I might switch to Nikon in the future. I like the way they feel in my hands. -

Sorry if it's a dumb qn.
Any of Nikon's model has the timer and remote function?
Cos mine don't & my friend who's holding a Canon has them.-
The Nikon D40 has a self timer, and you can buy a wireless remote control for it.

I use a Canon 40D. I use Canon because they are rated higher for astrophotography, their chip is more light sensitive, less noise.
Having said that my daughter who has taken many courses and does a lot of photography likes Nikon better, she has a D200, all depends what you want to use it for. With the state of the art now doesn't much matter, both great brands. -

Seems to be a good camera. You say it lacks a timer and a remote control mode? Because the review seems to say otherwise: www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD70/page2.asp (see Shooting modes).

Oh hey! There's a wireless remote!
But how do u set it? I don't have the manual u see...
Been hunting down the first owner for the manual but to no avail.
Anyway, I still can't see the timer function.
Where is it? Oh! The self-timer..
Where? Which button?? Been fiddling with it but can't seem to find it. -
You can download the manual here:

I've just read your problem. if your using firefox you may install the downthemall add on of mozilla after that you may go to tools point to downthemall then click manager click the add url and then copy paste the url of the file then click the folder image icon and choose location where the file will be saved and then click start! wait for it to be totally downloaded.;)

I have a Canon 400D and love it. Just bought it a couple months ago. But I have been working with travelers for years and have always enjoyed hearing peoples opinions about the two brands. I made up my mind due to a couple of reasons...
1. I had an old canon film camera and it was wonderful, years back
2. Canon have the mass market down. They are producing these lower end dslr's like mad.
3. Canon's lenses are amazing - I still have to save for some myself.
But I really don't think that at that level there is much in it. Some pro's I have chatted to (who are really top travel photographers) have said that at the very top Nikon has always had the edge. But then, you see some of the pro's with Canon's as well.
The best advice is to look for the price you are going to by for, and then look at specific features that appeal to you. There are some minor differences. Other than these small things, there really can't be much in it. -
Canon, because:
1. you will be loved
2. just because you have a DSLR, people will think you're some amazing photographer
3. come on, when you say camera, you say canon. if not, you must be destroyed.
on a serious note, i mainly use the Canon G10... lolused. but anyhow, the G10, surprisingly, is just as good as any dslr from my experience. i don't have much to say about it at the moment... canon tastes amazing.
