If Pedophiles within the Church were Women, do you think they would be hidden within the Church
the same way Male Pedophiles are being hid within the Church today? and if so why or why not?

What should the punishment be for those who commit such heinous acts within the Church?

Doesn't the Church have a moral responsibility to protect their lambs and clean up this mess,
while taking the necessary steps within the law to remove and punish such offenders?

If you know your Church to be filled with Pedophiles, what does that do to your belief system,
if the House of the Lord is defiled before your eyes?

Would you still remain a member of that Church knowing full well that Pedophiles are still active participants within your Church? How should the Church act to clean up this mess?

      @MrCheeseburger...are you sure?
abuse is abuse and I know quiet a few nuns who abused both males and females
I'm sure the others are away for the Countdown, so I'll continue when they show up.

Well as long as they aren't nasty old nuns, then boys wouldn't care. Hahaha, but no, abuse is bad.

Child abuse is a serious issue. Child abusers male or female sometimes use objects on children.

Q: What should the punishment be for those who commit such heinous acts within the Church?

A: If you'll notice, Pope Benedict XVI has firmly put his foot down on pedophile-priests. Three things he did: (a) made it very clear to bishops conferences throughout the world that pedophile-priests do not have a place in the Church, (b) he said sorry to the victims, (c) he put in place a system that will make sure no more pedophile priests pop up(read Zenit for starters).

As to the punishment, that will have to be between the erring priest and God. It'll be severe, considering that priests have received special helps when they were ordinated, like why was man given a second chance, and the angels weren't? Because angels possess an intelligence way superior to man that disobedience has no excuse.

Q: Doesn't the Church have a moral responsibility to protect their lambs and clean up this mess, while taking the necessary steps within the law to remove and punish such offenders?

A: It does, and the problem's being addressed.

Q: If you know your Church to be filled with Pedophiles, what does that do to your belief system, if the House of the Lord is defiled before your eyes?

A: The more I will cling to Mother Church at the hour of her direst need.

Q: Would you still remain a member of that Church knowing full well that Pedophiles are still active participants within your Church? How should the Church act to clean up this mess?

A: Yes, all the more. The world's gone upside down, and the Church has not been spared, but the Church will overcome difficulties.

The church should hand over all pedophiles immediately to be dealt with in legal system.

The church is not the appropriste organisation to deal with this issue.

These are crimes against humanity and need to be treated as such.

The churches should be responsible and stop protecting sexual abusers of minors.

The Pope should just pass a notion that all people within the church disclose what they know about the abuse of children.
    3. acousticguitarist
The problem IS NOT being addressed properly.

When I took my complaint to people at 12, they told me to go away.

When I addressed at 16, the police were not called in

When I addressed it in 1993, there was minimal information given to me. It was not dealt with honestly.

When I approached the church last year, I was directed to a place for healing WITHIN the church. I am now ready to go to the police and 60 minutes

You say Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) put his foot down - give me a break!

You praise this ____________, who was in charge and who implemented and maintained a policy of protecting pedophile priests from the long arm of the law from the 1960's until the end of November 2008, for making a blame the victims apology, and for doing so only after it became clear that the US court of Appeals would find that the Vatican can and will be sued, and that the _________ himself will be subpoenaed to testify.

His apology impresses you? His behavior is okay with you?

It disgusts me because the policies he implemented and upheld lead to hundreds of thousands of more incidences of the same pedophile priests grooming children for rape in the name of Jesus.

It further disgusts me because his "sheeple" have bought into the blame the victims mentality.

"The Popes testimony is important because before he was pope, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congregation_for_the_Doctrine_of_the_Faith and oversaw reports of sexual abuse by priests. That office, along with its predecessor, the Congregation of the Holy Office, were directly involved with the investigation of sexual abuse by clerics. In May 2001 then Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) sent a letter to Bishops confirming that the 1962 code of secrecy remained in effect.

This was the behavior of the ____________ (incarnation of Christ? incarnation of Satan?) that is your illustrious "leader".

If you have any compassion in your heart seek out the facts about the pedophile priests and nuns in your own country, the Philippines, and help the victims - don't blame them. Demand justice for them and become their champion.

In May 2001 then Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) sent a letter to Bishops confirming that the 1962 code of secrecy remained in effect.

The Pope recently visited the United States where he issued an apology (sort of) for the priest abuse claims that have rocked North America. However, the Pope blamed the abuse on individual priests and failed to acknowledge the role he and the Church may have had in allowing the abuse to continue for decades.

"It is a great suffering for the church in the United States and for the church in general and for me personally that this could happen," Benedict said. "It is difficult for me to understand how it was possible that priests betray in this way their mission ... to these children."

Below are the links to the message from the pope in April 2008. I notice that he fails to admit his complicity in the hiding of these pedophile priests from the long arm of law law from the 1960s - 2008. It does seem he's trying to convince listeners he knew nothing about the abuse previously, when we know this is impossible, given the position he held as prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith that oversaw reports of sexual abuse by priests.

Uncut: Benedict addresses 'shame' of abuse
(NECN: Washington, DC) - In the first of what could be a number of comments addressing the abuse crisis within the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI said he is "deeply ashamed" by the actions of pedophile priests, and will work to prevent the issue from occurring again.

On the flight from Rome to Washington, DC, Benedict answered four previously-submitted questions from reporters, addressing his answer on the abuse scandal in English.

"It is a great suffering for the church in the United States and for the church in general and for me personally that this could happen," Benedict said. "It is difficult for me to understand how it was possible that priests betray in this way their mission... to these children."

"I am deeply ashamed, and we will do what is possible so this cannot happen again in the future," the pope added.

He also acknowledged the pain being felt by victims of clergy abuse, and pledged to remove pedophiles from the priesthood.

Most of the comments here seem to proceed from the simple lack of knowledge about the Church many people exhibit. Maybe one thing everyone might want to do first is to brush up on the subject before going off with guns blazing, shooting from the hip at that.

If Pedophiles within the Church were Women, do you think they would be hidden within the Church the same way Male Pedophiles are being hid within the Church today? and if so why or why not?
I think women are already hid more than men. A woman's touch is presumed more to be loving while a man's is presumed to be sexual, whether intended to be so or not. A woman is more likely to be defended against allegations than a man. If the accused is male, the reaction is swift and presumptive. If female, there is open doubt till proven. There are pedophile nuns. But how many of them are heard about? It's the male priests and monks that has brought the uproar in the Catholic communions. Among other communions we find similar. But as there are so few female clergy, there are too little to make comparisons among staff.

What should the punishment be for those who commit such heinous acts within the Church?
Civil punishments do apply. Within the laws and bylaws of the church bodies, procedures vary, but with the purpose of effecting repentance and recompense to the victims. And none of these are done easily or without a lot of anger.

Doesn't the Church have a moral responsibility to protect their lambs and clean up this mess, while taking the necessary steps within the law to remove and punish such offenders?
They do. At the same time the role of the churches are to go beyond that, to effect a final healing, if possible.

If you know your Church to be filled with Pedophiles, what does that do to your belief system, if the House of the Lord is defiled before your eyes?
No more so than with any other abomination.

Would you still remain a member of that Church knowing full well that Pedophiles are still active participants within your Church? How should the Church act to clean up this mess?
It depends. If the issue is being addressed, it would not effect my membership. If it's treated as if the offenders are actually to be treated in good standing, and if victims or those advocating victims are treated as deserving of victimhood or condemned in any way, then I would side with the victim and may leave that communion. At that point the faith that church has kept with its members has been openly breached by the church itself.

In consideration of that, I would have to say that churches, even apart from Roman Catholics, have been very diligent in judging victims harshly and unfairly. I've even seen some of it on certain threads in BC. Some respondents have reacted with a lot of anger from their own victimization. It isn't just pedophilia. It's all manner of violence, and pedophilia is a form of violence. All the while, churches have done a lot of pretending while approaching victims with arrogance.

Let's quit pretending. The victims aren't the ones sinning. The churches are. If a victim has left a communion because such no longer found solace in it, the blame is not to be placed on the victim. The blame is the church's. It isn't the victim that needs to repent. The victim is actually the one calling for repentance and has every right to do so. And the chance that the victim has adopted another faith in the meantime does not invalidate the victim's cry.

And unless the churches repent, as Revelation 3:19 was in fact addressed to a church (and according to some expositors, directly representative of THE church today), then any talk about "winning the world" is nothing short of ridiculous.

If church people get real, and quit arrogantly blaming victims, but reach out to them in genuine caring, most of those victims will in time warm to those churches again.

And I say this for myself. I visit many churches. Ditto for mosques, synagogues, and temples. But I never stay very long because I know it's just too dangerous for me to do so. I know there are many who feel the same.
    1. Jeunelle

Thank you for your honest answers.

There are no women in the Catholic Church hierarchy.

There's another concept I'd like readers to understand. The Church is basically the faithful: people. So if a priest-pedophile strikes, he offends himself.
    1. LynneaUrania
Immaterial. They nevertheless serve on church staffs and in Catholic schools, often as nuns.
    2. LynneaUrania
There is also a difference between the "faithful" and the organization called a "church." There's a lot of switching around between the two, especially when it comes to making pronouncements. For purpose of this discussion, the second applies, even if the aspiration is to the first. And just because the aspirations are to the first, the second is not absolved of responsibility or of the necessity to repent before demanding such of victims.
    3. acousticguitarist
there have been numerous women pedophiles
    4. Jeunelle
      acousticguitarist
there have been numerous women pedophiles.

Many men keep quiet on that subject, especially if it happened to them and they were victimized by women within the Church.

I once watched a Nun force my blood brother to eat an entire pack of cigarettes because she caught him smoking, then they had him kneel on the Church floor for over 3 hours holding two 10lb rocks in each hand above his head. I mean get real, I couldn't believe my eyes.

I questioned it and it was passed over by my Great Aunt who was also Catholic and nobody seemed to care. Nobody wanted to question it, so I'm sure there are all sorts of different abuses going on, not to mention those who turn their eyes elsewhere.

But this discussion is getting interesting so moving right along here.

It makes quite a bit of sense that the Church has been infiltrated by secret societies at the highest level since the bizarre papal election of 1958. One of their objectives being to destroy catholic and protestant religions (in Western countries), dressing up pedophiles as priests would be a good way to go about it.

I saw a report on PBS in England that the male Priests would leave the Anglican Church of England if women are ordained as priests. They would join the Catholic Church. Women get no respect in any church!

So...my answer to your question is, NO, it would not be hidden.
    1. acousticguitarist
That's interesting. They have spent millions of dollars in covering up all sexual abuse in the church and keeping it out of the media, I'm not quite sure how you could come to that conclusion
    2. Jeunelle
Here is another good eye opener, where is the Church getting all this money from to front
      and protect their interest?

The Holy Seal figures were out recently for all to see but that certainly is deceptive as they do not list any of the private contributions made to them.

Why spend any money to cover up this topic?

Why not just come clean, admit your faults and stop harboring those who do harm within the Church?

You can beat your ass, as of today the Church is still infested with this vermin and as of now there is no cure, the abuse goes on and on your watch.

I can't even start on this. Part of the reason I reason I started a blog was that in the spring of my senior year in high school I wrote a livejournal post about the Pope which really ticked off some friends.

Speaking as a Christian. I feel disgust and ashamed of those who call themselves Godly spiritual leaders, yet feel it is okay to sexually, physically, or mentally abuse children or adults, be it male or female.

I do believe that both male and female pedophiles/abusers would be hidden if it were possible, and I feel that when a group of spiritual leaders hide the ones who have done this crime, then they are just as guilty.

It breaks my heart the children and young adults are harmed by people who claim to be a follower of Jesus... There is no excuse for their behavior and they should be punished to the full extent that the law allows. No excuses...

I admire the people who have been abused as children or even as adults that are willing to step up and bring this atrocious behavior for all the world to see.

A lot of horrible things have been done in the name of religion, God or Jesus and it sickens me, I feel it that and it needs to be acknowledged and rectified, and possible restitution is due!

The punishment for a pedophile in or out of a church should be the same prison time, and close monitoring after release.
What bothers me most about the Catholic Churches new "anti-pedophile" policies is that their questionnaire to weed out pedophiles is really a form to weed out homosexuals. That is fine for them keeping gays out of their priesthood, but it will do absolutely nothing to stop the pedophiles. The problem is a homosexual man is not generally a pedophile. A pedophile is ONLY aroused by children. A homosexual man is attracted to other adult men. Adults, heterosexual and homosexual, who are attracted to other adults are overwhelmingly not also attracted to children. The majority of the children assaulted by these priest were girls.

Some of the characteristics of a pedophile are:
    * He/she is often fascinated with children and child activities appearing to prefer those activities to adult oriented activities.
    * He/she will often refer to children in pure or angelic terms using descriptives like innocent, heavenly, divine, pure, and other words that describe children but seem inappropriate and exaggerated.
    * He/she has hobbies that are child-like such as collecting popular expensive toys, keeping reptiles or exotic pets, or building plane and car models.
The pedophile will often be employed in a position that involves daily contact with children. If not employed, he will put himself in a position to do volunteer work with children, often in a supervisory capacity such as sports coaching, contact sport instruction, unsupervised tutoring or a position where he has the opportunity to spend unsupervised time with a child.

Here are some facts regarding child sex abuse, it is not a subject to be taken lightly:
    * 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18.
    * 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18.
    * 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet.
    * Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under.
    * An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today.

Even within the walls of their own homes, children are at risk for sexual abuse

    * 30-40% of victims are abused by a family member.
    * Another 50% are abused by someone outside of the family whom they know and trust.
    * Approximately 40% are abused by older or larger children whom they know. (included in the 50% abused by someone they know)
    * Therefore, only 10% are abused by strangers.
Childhood sexual abuse is often cited as the leading cause of alcohol and drug abuse, mental health disorders as well as at risk behaviors in all areas of their life.

thanks for those stats. Since I started my healingtreesformen.wordpress.com blog lots of women have come forward and spoken to me about their experiences, and I'm shocked. I thought i was a rare case, i am as a man because few men speak up. I started my blog to inspire others to speak up and to inspire them.

      @truthandlove
I too caught the off beat "we'll weed out the gays message" and my chin hit the ground. A pedophile is ONLY aroused by children.

Thank you so much for wading in and for sharing this valuable information with us.
  19. Jeunelle
    @truthandlove....You raised excellent points here.

Weeding out homosexuals as a Scapegoat is one thing but what about addressing the defiling of the Church which is feminine (the bride) and restoring her to former glory?
Isn't that the goal of the Church?

After the bride (the sophia) fell, I would have hoped to see the Church do their job and restore her to her former glory but instead they harbor within her, unclean things and work to sweep the dirt
under the carpet instead of chasing it once and for all out of (her) the Church.

A priest also acts as a exorcist and if a priest cannot even preform this basic function as exorcist
to drive out evil, what kind of weak ass priest is that?
    1. Jeunelle
and this is the same problem Jesus had when he flipped out over when he saw them gambling and making mockery of his Father's house.

No wonder he completely lost it and flipped over all those gambling tables and cussed their asses out. I like him a lot already. Evil should be confronted any cost.

For some whose rights have been violated, it's strange that you'd content yourself with spreading vitriol on the Internet rather than taking the first step most people do- sue.

And one tip, your use of expletives betray a lot about you. That goes for the others too. Why you should resort to words you use escapes me.
    1. timethief
      @katergazomai
You have made no worthwhile contribution to this discussion and now you launch a cowardly trollish personal attack. Indeed your self righteous concern about expletives reeks of the of the corrupted attitudes that Jesus decried in the Sadducees and Pharisees of his day.
    2. siralmo
@ katergazomai and why if you have gone through all of this, would you allow others to trawl through all the details of such an event not in your time but in their time??
    3. timethief
and why if you have gone through all of this, would you allow others to trawl through all the details of such an event not in your time but in their time?

I'm confused. What do you mean? I have no court case. I have no intention of legal suit. I was not sexually abused. There are many forms of abuse and I suffered them all except that one. What are you talking about?

These pedophiles are still in the churches. They still have not been brought to justice and they are not locked away from children. On average pedophiles have been known to molest 300 children each in a 25 - 30 years span of time.
    4. siralmo
i am talking about abuse in general, to take it through court is distressing, unless your are comfortable with it
    5. timethief
      @siralmo
Yes. I didn't understand you so I added your name and quote - see above.
    6. timethief
      @siralmo
Ahh ... thanks for the clarification. Good question.

      keter whatever you call yourself

you have no idea about this subject, you are totally uninformed.

Would you like the names who had sex me when I was 11 years old, if you want to report them you can?

Do you understand the process of suing the church. You are totally ignorant

Maybe in the years to come, someone dear to you will come to you and say they were abused by someone in the church and you'll remember these posts here and why people are upset. Till then, pray hard for the pedophiles

I assure you you'd have your hands full if everyone would simply observe the basic demands of decency which even dolphins observe. I'll be back in one week.
    1. timethief
      @atergazomai
You have not responded to the original post. You have offered nothing of value to the dialog. You have nitpicked over expletives rather than responding to the issues.

You are busy judging others rather than asking yourself why your heart is so hardened. And asking yourself why you do not choose to become an advocate for those children in the Philpinnes who are victims of pedophile priests there.

I'm calling for you to take the plank out of your eye and actually become a decent human being, church member and, an actual blogger. At this point you aren't doing well on any front.

Judging by the numbers it will take you much longer than 1 week to learn how to blog effectively, and to attract a readership and commenters in order to form a blog centered community.

How big is that plank? to have it lodge in the eye socket must have damaged the nerves... OMG
    3. timethief
It may have damaged more than that because katergazomai blog posts are based on bashing protestant theology ... YAWN
  22. creemos
You should see what pedophiles are doing outside the "church"; its even more prolific.
    1. Jeunelle
@creemos...I have a feeling that's another discussion by itself.
    2. timethief
Evangelical fundamentalist Christians excel in the use of innuendo and deliberate manipulation of the facts. For example: they have the audacity to deliberately choose not to differentiate between pedophiles who prey on children and consenting homosexual adults. I can identify the stench of the types of fallacious arguments they selectively use before they even make them.
  23. creemos
LOL... that was random thought confusion....

Anyways, you are very right Jeunelle in your burden about abuse within the ranks of the "church." Sin is sin no matter where it takes place. God sees all - whether one is brought to justice here or at the The Great White Throne Judgment Seat of Christ Jesus.

There are many a pervert that lurks outside the "church" and Jesus warned that many would creep in order to devour and destroy. They are not true followers of Jesus Christ but wicked ones from without...

In due time, Jesus will set all things in order... and all things will be laid naked and bare before the One in whom we ALL must give account - whether we believe it or not.

"If Pedophiles within the Church were Women, do you think they would be hidden within the Church
the same way Male Pedophiles are being hid within the Church today? and if so why or why not?"

If the pedofiles within the Church were Women a lot more young men would be interested in joining these churches...

The Catholic Church has spent billions of dollars from their collection plates in legal fees and settlments because of the evil behaviour of some of their priests...

I cannot think of a more dispicable crime than priests who have taken a vow of celibacy etc. to serve the creator sodomizing the young innocent boys in their care and trust...

Perhaps similar to a carbon offset program where someone flying for recreation etc. donates a sum of money to plant trees etc. to somewhat offset their carbon use an Evil offset program could be set up with the taliban...

What if we could somehow send these guilty priests to the taliban for sodomization and beheadment in exchange for the taliban not blowing up 10 year old students on their way to school...

If you haven't seen it, Deliver Us From Evil is a documentary about the child abuses done by Catholic priest Oliver O' Grady. The story of Fr. O' Grady and the abused children and how the Church policed Fr. O' Grady will provide some insights on your questions.

Here's great little article from Australia about the Arch Bishop that was sent to Boston in 2003. He hasn't done anything wrong but he was the most suitable by the sounds of it because there were about 500 sexual abuse cases in that archdiocese to deal with.

My dad was an ordained minister mythoughtsalways.blogspot.com/2008/05/childrens-rights.html He used the Bible in a way that is very disgusting and sick. I know the more about the Bible than I truly care to. There are good principles in it if you aren't sick. I grew up in church so to say I'm uneducated is ignorant. The fact is the church or any church hides behind that book. "MIC 3:11 Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and
her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they lean upon the LORD and say,
"Is not the LORD among us? No disaster will come upon us." www.biblebb.com/files/tniv/HYPOCRIS.TXT My whole life was filled with "Do not what I do, Do what I say." As a child when you rat these vermin out nothing happens. They are protected by the church or church officials. If that isn't bad enough adults who have nothing to do with church are just as guilty for not using their ears when a child speaks to them of the things behind closed doors.
    1. Jeunelle
@Shiley...Yup the lambs keep calling out "there's a wolf among us" while the Shepherd
turns a blind eye and fails to act to save his flock.
