   Doing SEO you need incoming links to increase the Page Rank so those will come from social media. SEO work is:
   1. Research and identify relevant Key Phrases with highest KEI (Keyword Efficency Index).
   2. Technically optimise your site.
   3. Link building with appropriate anchor texts.
   4. Position monitoring and site analytics.

    I wouldn't buy traffic. I think social networking has worked better for me than anything else but it depends on what you want out of your blog.

    What do you think the best way to promote blog?
    
    a) Search engine optimization (rank well on Google, Yahoo, MSN).
    b) Social media and communication (BlogCatalog, MyBlogLog, Digg, Del.icio.us, Zimbio...).
    
    I choose both since i am familiar working these two techniques.
