What is a ping back? I have the box checked to allow them on my posts, but never gotten one until today. What do they do and am I supposed to do something in response?

They update their database only if you have posted a new article.

You might like to see the wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pingback Then take a look at 'trackback' also. A Pingback is one of three types of Linkbacks, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles.

Be aware that a significant number of pingbacks are actually coming from splogs that have linked to your posts. if they have used only an excerpt of your content, have correctly attributed authorship and have provided a link back to the original post there is nothing you need do. This is the normal protocol. If they have scraped your entire post then act on it by demanding they remove your content from your site.

What to do? Determine if the pingback is coming from a legitimate blog or from a splog. Post the former and delete the latter after you use either slogspot or copyscape to determine whether or not your content has been stolen.

It always blows my mind that people steal content. There are whole article directories they can get free content from on any topic and link back to source. Why steal from another blog?

ok, I kinda get it, the one says I am clean, which is good right?
How do I know who linked to it? It's important to me, cause I believe it is one of my pictures of my kids and I want to know who has it.

With the bad neighborhood tool, I found 1600 unique links and 6 questionable ones. Blogging can get complicated.

Check those questionable ones out though. I had two -- both of which were fine. One that was questionable on my blog was because someone used a recycled poker chip in a craft project and the word poker chip set off the bad neighborhood checker.

I don't understand you. On a wordpress blog your pinbacks come in just as comments do and you can see the sites that they come from and the IPs just as you can on comments.

I don't know what this means or what the heck it has to do with pingbacks

Please read the codex as I think it will help you: codex.wordpress.org/Introduction_to_Blogging#Managing_Comments

Ping bak was a Chinese master of drunken monkey martial arts

note how his name has been westernised, because he always ended up losing and on his back it was changed in the 14th century
