Have you ever had a blog entry suddenly experience a spike in hits, inexplicably? On mother's day, I posted an entry that featured a fairly common, easily found picture of Bob Ross. gentlemanbeggar.wordpress.com/2008/05/11/m-is-for-the-many-times-you-said-i... Last week, I found that the post was suddenly my most popular post. It's been averaging 150 to 170 hits every day since. When I checked where all my references were coming from, I found that my blog was listed on the first page of google images search for "Bob Ross". What gets me, is why is Bob Ross such a popular search term? Anyone else have similar experiences?

I don't knit and I barely know who Stephanie Pearl McPhee is, but I happened to have made a passing reference to her at a time when she'd made a very controversial post (over a year ago) and started getting traffic on a lot of snippy terms like "Stephanie Pearl McPhee is overrated" and "mean post about Yarn Harlot". I wrote a post called "Stephanie Pearl McPhee is Overrated...My Mean Post About the Yarn Harlot" (which was really about the baser instinct that drove people to go searching for things like that) and it's still getting traffic on those and similar terms.

Yup, I find that for whatever reason people will look up "A woman scorned" in various forms and in spurts - as well as a new blast of hits from a discussion on Buzzflash quite some time ago.

Weird, I mean, I know how buzzflash works, and those "articles" get buried rather quickly. Someone took a lot of time to dig them up, and use the links in the comments section.

    Weird.

On a more reasonable front, my post entitled "The New Excite E-mail System Sucks" is going ganbusters. That's one I'm not surprised by, at all. I am a little surprised by the number of comments it has accrued in such a short while. I can only hope that somebody at excite catches a glimpse of my blog through some freak coincidence.

I have a zannel widget on my blog site and I can see how many people view each picture. I picture of my son coloring at Chili's got like 70 views the first day I put it up. It is weird.

Every day I have people coming to my site because of some photos of hockey player Jaromir Jagr I captured off TV, sporting a really BAD facial hair choice.

I'm sure he's shaved the thing off by now. The playoffs are over. But still, folks come.

Won't matter about Jaromir Jagr...he just signed to play in Russia for the next few years, I heard

Oh wow- doing a quick internet search, you are quite right, and I missed that entire thing. I'm surprised our local news didn't mention it-- though since he left the 'Burgh, we don't talk about him much anymore.

10 months later and Bob Ross is still going strong. Inexplicable.

That's because Bob Ross is so awesomely weird.

Of late, I'm getting search terms for Phoenix's Lisztomania and the lyrics, which I mention because they're strange and because I don't have them. Most folks flit in and back out but a few of them stop and listen to the song or even page through and find other things to read/hear. I wouldn't purposely use misleading language in a post, but if I happen up on such bonus search traffic, I'm hardly going to complain!

On my old blog it was my Epic Songs post. For some reason people searched top 10 epic songs...all the freaking time.

I experience a small pop (very small, like 20 people - which for me and a brand new blog - feels like a load of traffic) whenever I post opinion on some of the workings of the NHL or Stanley Cup predictions.

Anything else seems to go widely ignored, unless I whore it out shamelessly.

My other blog, One Nut shy (onenutshy.wordpress.com) had a post on it with the words "myspace" and "stalker" in it-- I submitted it to reddit.com and I had a surge of 950 users in one day. It was enough to bump me up to #2 on wordpress' fastest growing blogs. I've been chuckling about it all day. I hope it keeps up. I really want those comics to be seen.

Wow, Bob Ross is experiencing a new surge in popularity on my blog right now... It baffles me that there are that many people searching google for the 'fro'd one.

Yep - my very first real post was "He's an a**hole but I love him" and I get a ton of hits to it via search engines. Apparently it's a popular sentiment.
