What would probably make you give up blogging? Is there anything else which is more important than blogging?

There are many things more important than blogging. A blog usually has information that can be found in a number of other sources, so unless it were absolutely adored by all of its fans, it would probably not be missed after a while.
Things like family, friends, jobs and kids are more important to me than blogging. If something tragic were to happen, and it required that I not blog for a while, I would drop it, and try to continue later on.

I do agree with you. People around us are very important. I blog because there isn't anyone around.

Sure, if I decide to spend my extra time cleaning house instead of blogging, or working harder instead of blogging...neither of which will happen any time soon.

Someone has to do the dirty work, I suppose!

Once I get a sexlife, blogging is history!

Just a sex life or a good sex life You are too funny!

Sometimes my spouse gets really frustrated at all of the time I spend sitting at my laptop since I started blogging. Before I started blogging seriously, we sat down and had a conversation. I explained that if I did take up blogging seriously I would have to devote a lot of time and energy to it, and Ron thought it was a great idea and said go for it. Which I remind him of when he gets tetchy about me being glued to the puter for hours on end. I would give up blogging if my spouse asked me to. But I sure as hell hope he never does.

I have the same problem. I try to get round it by involving her in the blogging process. I ask for her opinion on things that I write about. We are now finding out more about each other than we did before blogging. Sad isn't it!
    2. libdrone
I tried a similar tactic and recruited my sweetie to write half of one of my posts

      blog.libdrone.org/2007/10/guns-friends-and-fears.html

But he still gets Really Pi$$ed when I IM him from across the room
    3. maccasenior
The other tactic that I have been using is to compose an article at work (in my own time) in MSword and email it to myself. So when I get home I don't have to spend as much time on blogging.
    4. footiam
Oh! I would rather have human company!

If blogging began to interfere with the amount of time I spend with my children, then blogging would have to go. Luckily, I have plenty of free time while they are at school or like today...they went to the mountains with their grandparents
    1. footiam
I do think children are more important.
  6. melbs1969
no way. i'm way, way too addicted!!! i second what suburbqueen said...if it doesn't interfere with my real life, then...nope, not giving it up.
    1. footiam
      Me too!

    Is there life after blogging?
    1. footiam
There should be a life after blogging. There was one before.

I'm on my computer a lot when I'm at home. But my kiddies are all grown up, I'm single, and don't really have to worry about taking time away from a significant other. But would I give up blogging? Sure, if there was a good enough reason to.
    1. footiam
right now, I guess there is no reason
  9. slyvisions
I would not give up blogging... but I would STOP blogging. It really depends on time management and everything. Giving up is just something I never do.

Once you fall in love with blogging it becomes addictive. I don't want to stop. And don't think I could stop at this point. Has anyone else developed "blogger's elbow" yet? Happy blogging to all.
    1. footiam
I have this same problem. I thought of making a time table, to blog only at certain time instead of all the time but most probably it wouldn't work. As you say, it's addictive.
  13. ThriftShopRomantic
It's been rewarding, so I'd hope to be able to continue to balance it into the mix. If you want to do something enough, you usually manage to find a way.

    Hi all,
I think for at least the last 10yrs i've spent a good many hours daily online for one reason or another, I don't see that changing any time soon, luckily my wife has a computer next to mine and spends at least the same amount of time online too so no conflict there which is great.
I think as long as I got people that are interested in my blog i'll stay with it, I love blogging right now and hope it stays that way but I have plenty of other things to fall back on if the blogging does fail.

    Tony:)

For me, blogging is just writing in public. I write all of the time, anyway, and at least blogging is more productive than Stumbling and playing Bejeweled.

I love the feedback, but if I quit blogging I'd just start compiling articles on the same topics and perhaps build the concepts into a book. If more than three people bought said book, I'd fall over dead. Thus, I blog to save my life.
    1. footiam
You may be right that it is more productive than stumbling but I don't really stumble, just blog. It does not save my life though, just make it more meaningful!

almost. compose new article are not so easy!!
    1. footiam
You can always add a photo. No reason to give up blogging then!

If my partner asked me to stop, I would give it up. I don't think he would though, it gives him a chance to play the xbox without me distracting him

If my children get older and ask me to stop, I would too. There are many things more important than blogging.
    1. footiam
You are great! It's difficult to find such people around. To give up things one love for someone one loves!
  18. friedclyde
quit my job to work from home, blogging is helping me make some money so, bo i cant quit
    1. footiam
      We need to eat!
  19. LGramlich
I would quit for quite a few different reasons. I can definitely live without it. My painting (for one,) is more important to me (I may be taking a blog break soon to focus more on that.) I also prefer hiking & enjoying nature to sitting at my computer. Sure I'd give up blogging. No biggie.
    1. footiam
      Great! You are in control!
  20. johnsblogs42
How much money are we talking about here to quit? And is it a perma-quit? Or just a repreive?

    8^)
  21. Emergiblog
Not a chance. It's become an integral part of who I am and what I do.

Only for a pail of peanut butter cookies!
    1. footiam
      Not much to ask, right?
  23. arshad
Ya ,there are so many things important than blogging.Blogging plays a major role in life only if you are a professional blogger .
  24. SweetViolet
What would make me give up blogging? Loss of the electricity infrastructure...
    1. footiam
      Good reason!

For me - blogging is a major part of my income and job - so is writing - research - and networking. So I have rules just as any regular job would have. My work day begins at 8am and ends at roughly 4:30pm unless I have a deadline from hell to meet. I do allow for the occasional "overtime". Weekends are work free - even if not internet free. I may be parked here - but it's for fun - not work.

I'd toss in the towel if this career choice ever took me away from life and family more than reasonably expected of any other job. I can replace an income - I can't replace a family.
  26. ModelElaine
Family and children are more important. But that doesn't mean one has to give up blogging. It works well together. Blogging is one of my strongest passions. I am happy I found out about blogging when I did
  27. fated82
Since blogging becomes part of my business, I don't think I will give up. What would let me give up blogging? nothing really, unless I have bigger commitments like relationship or family matters
  28. earthlingorgeous
well, there is more things important than blogging definitely, but blogging is just a hang-out an outlet a place where everyone rants about their daily grind or things on their head, so it's a place for shooting shit and it's relaxing for me.

so I won't give up blogging, I may take short breaks when necessary, but as much as possible blog whenever there is an urge for me to say my piece.
    1. footiam
      I am with you!
  29. davedol
When I run out of things to say, then I'll lay blogging to rest. Will I be blogging 10 years from now? I have no idea. Who has a decade of ideas to express?
  30. drjay1966
I would kill anyone who tried to stop me from blogging.

You wanna try to stop me, punk?

    Make

    my

    day...
    1. drjay1966
Damn, I need to learn how to use that photoshop stuff....
  31. MelvinD
blogging is just a hobby... I think putting it as a top priority makes one a retard...
    1. hatingtherain
Even the retards who make a ton of money from blogging? Or the retards who help others in need with their blogging?

It's personally just a hobby to me, but there are many who take theirs seriously.
  32. metalslugx
if i cant get a good layout and if i cant write anymore..maybe i'll just give up haha...

not that easy. i blog for fun. but i want the blog to be nice nice =)
  33. radioflyer1980
There are many things more important than blogging: family and work come to mind off the top of my head. However, while I might give up blogging, I don't think I would give up writing. I find it relaxes me in a way that few other things do.
  34. carolyn
If at least a dozen things dont' come to mind that would make you give up blogging...I have one thing to say: YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE ;-) And that probably includes most of us in this room right now....
    1. footiam
      My life now is blogging!
    2. jafabrit
well don't include me in your list of most then
  35. jeremyjanson
If I stopped being inspired, or my computer ate me.
  36. celticmusicfan
I would stop if physically forced to do so. Or if there is something better than this.
    1. footiam
      That goes for me too!
  37. jafabrit
My art is the most important and blogging is just yet another vehicle for it. I would give it up if I felt it didn't fit my art needs, but until then I enjoy using it.
    1. footiam
Yes, why don't we enjoy both!
