Desperado by the Eagles. Someone very close to me pointed out some things about that song, that made me take a good hard look at myself.
and at #2 She's no Lady, She's my Wife by Lyle Lovett was my wedding song...How's that for a sense of humour:) -
The Elusive Butterfly of Love
Yes its lyrics are powerful and heard them when I was about 11 and it stuck, even tonight I played it on guitar
"You might wake up some morning
To the sound of something moving past your window in the wind
And if you're quick enough to rise
You'll catch the fleeting glimpse of someone's fading shadow
Out on the new horizon you may see the floating motion of a distant pair of wings
And if the sleep has left your ears
You might hear footsteps running through an open meadow
Don't be concerned it will not harm you
It's only me pursuing something I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love
You might have heard my footsteps
Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind
I might have even called your name as I ran searching after something to believe in You might have seen me runnin'
Through the long abandonned ruins of the dreams you left behind
If you remember something there
That glided past you followed close by heavy breathing
Don't be concerned it will not harm you
It's only me pursuing something I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love"
It made me want to write beautiful somgs

Second best. Because I was in my teens when it came out and well, sweet memories... With Rod Steward "I'm sailing"
-
My fav is River of Dreams by Billy Joel.
IDK why.
It just always has, ever since I first heard it on the radio when I was young. -
-
Strawberry Fields Forever...it's meant a lot of different things to me at different times of my life...but basically it's a song about having a place in your mind you can escape to where everything's cool, but knowing you can't stay, and that you'll always be alone there...so you have to go back to the world we all live in....

Cos you just have to give it 3 minutes before it all comes together.
Trying to get on the right side of the moon & help others find their rainbow. -
It's Keb' Mo', Tell Everybody I Know. That album was never out of the CD player when hubby and I were first falling in love, and we used to sing this song to each other. Heck, sometimes we still do. www.last.fm/music/Keb\'+Mo\'/_/Tell+Everybody+I+Know
We also saw him live for the first time, that year, and he sang this song. [contented sigh] -
Fur Elise - Beethoven
This song was the first time I understood that one could communicate without words and that while some of the precision of language is lost, the power of the communication can more than make up for that.-
-
I very much like what you say here, the power of communication without the precision of language.
And I also like ‘Fur Elise’ a lot as well as Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight sonate’.
But my absolute favourite, at least at this moment, is 'Stationary Traveller' from Camel. I just rediscovered the band and can not get enough of it right now.
And also without words.

C is for cookie
www.youtube.com/watch?v=BovQyphS8kA-
"C is for Cookie" is great, but my favourite "Sesame Street" song is Oscar's "Love in the Junkyard":
"I can't tell how much I love you in a garden
I can't tell how much I love you at the Zoo
No, those places I just could not pu my heart in
No, those places somehow just would never do
But if you meet me in the moonlight in the junkyard
You'll find out just exactly what I mean
'Cause my love for you is bigger than the biggest pile of junk you've ever seen."
Gets me right HERE, every time.
Also, adore the "1, 2, 3, 4, 5..." pinball machine song. That song taught me how to count to 12!

Comfortably Numb - but only at my funeral
Bridge Over Trouble Water would be one of my all time fav's - no absolute favs of all time though. -
Ravel's "Bolero", Verdi's "La Donna È Mobile", from the opera Rigoletto,
or Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". -
Dust in the Wind by Kansas, for a particular moment and also for "all we are is dust in the wind" lovely metaphysical phrase.
-
-
Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.
Because it embodies everything that is great about my country in a beautiful and proud way.
The special meaning for me is that living way out of home, I can always keep home with me with the song.
That
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XojVmivqDrA is the symphony the song was written into, but this one tells the history so well, that I'll post this one (even gives the lyrics in English, when the hymn part comes, even though I strongly prefer the original Finnish ones, but you wouldn't.

#1 "The City" by Joe Purdy...it sums up life...it keeps on going. The man has talent. Whenever I hear it I can't help but smile and think of heading into the city
#2 "All I Can See" by Brendan James. It's how I want to live my life. carefree. exploring the world. His voice is refreshing. Check it out.
#3 "Moon River" by Patty Griffin. There's just something about the simplicity of the song.
I could go on and on... -

"No Justice" by the Oppressed
dreaming of how life can be
no them and us, just you and me
no rich or poor, no hate or war
where everybody knows the score
no justice...theres no justice
dreaming of a brighter day
where evrybody gets a say
where no one lives out on the streets
and no one has to steal to eat
no justice...theres no justice
living with reality
no justice in society
a mother cries, a baby die
and politicians tell you lies
no justice...theres no justice
Not actually my favorite song, but I've been listening to it a lot recently and it's pretty effing good:

In 1971 The Allman Brothers Band released their first live album, At Fillmore East. There are many classic selections from this album; but, my favorite cut is "One Way Out" - this is also my favorite song of all time.

Flying Without Wings - Westlife
When I was going through a rough patch a few years ago a Scottish friend sent me this song when I heard it for the first time. It's been my favorite all time song since. It's just a song about finding happiness in life.
Here's the karaoke sing-a-long link on youtube with lyrics:

Autumn by My Silent Wake, a progressive doom metal duo (one's from Britain and the other's from America). Autumn's my favourite song ever because it's a mellow acoustic number that's melancholy and hopeful all at the same time, and the words are the most beautiful poetry I've ever come across. Whenever I need some catharsis, I listen to this.

This is my favorite, and I don't even speak the language . . . but I know it is saying something about how two lovers can not get to each other. The singer is Laura Flores (who seems to have exited the music scene) and the song is "Oiga" and you can hear it here --
ca.youtube.com/watch?v=o1C1MGO2G2M
We travel to souther Mexico a lot but I would travel anywhere in Mexico to see Laura Flores perform. I just like the smoothness of her music. I think she is even more popular in Mexican soap operas. -
The Beatles' "Something". Lovely tune and blues guitar solo. *Sigh* Probably their most inspiring ballad. Just a thought.
-
Wow, what a playlist! Here's my 3.
1)Fabulous Thunderbirds - Tough Enough
2)Fatal Hesitation - Chris Deburgh
3)Viva la Vida - Coldplay -

I'm young. I like music in the 21st century. (except rap. gross).
My fav song would have to be 'I Miss You' by Miley Cyrus. That song is special to me because she dedicated to her grandfather and I don't have any.
Sha la la la la
Sha la la la la
You used to call me your angel
Said I was sent straight down from heaven
You'd hold me close in your arms
I loved the way you felt so strong
I never wanted you leave
I wanted you stay here holding me
{Chorus}
I miss you
I miss your smile
And I still shed a tear every once a while
And even though it's different now
Your still here somehow
My heart won't let you go
And I need you to know
I miss you
Sha la la la la
I miss you
You used to call me your dreamer
and now I'm livin' out my dream
Oh I wish you could see
Everything that's happening for me
I'm thinking back on the past
It's true the time is flying by to fast
I miss you
I miss your smile
And I still shed a tear every once in a while
And even though it's different know
Your still here somehow
My heart won't let you go
And I need you to know
I miss you
Sha la la la la
I miss you
I know your in a better place (yea)
But I wish that I coould see your face (oh)
I know where you need to be
Even though it's not here with
Chorus x2
I miss you
This is just my opinion. -
i can't just answer a question its like a parent choosing between two kids

Well, there are a few.
The Eagles are by far my favorite band. But given where I am at this moment in time I would have to vote for Jerry Jeff Walker's version of Night Riders Lament.
One night while I was out a ridin'
The grave yard shift, midnight 'til dawn
The moon was bright as a readin' light
For a letter from an old friend back home
And he asked me
Why do you ride for your money
Tell me why do you rope for short pay
You ain't a'gettin' nowhere
And you're losin' your share
Boy, you must have gone crazy out there
He said last night I ran on to Jenny
She's married and has a good life
And boy you sure missed the track
When you never come back
She's the perfect professional's wife
And she asked me
Why does he ride for his money
And tell me why does he rope for short pay
He ain't a'gettin' nowhere
And he's losin' his share
Boy he must've gone crazy out there
Ah but they've never seen the Northern Lights
They've never seen a hawk on the wing
They've never spent spring on the Great Divide
And they've never heard ole' camp cookie sing
Well I read up the last of my letter
And I tore off the stamp for black Jim
And when Billy rode up to relieve me
He just looked at my letter and grinned
He said now
Why do they ride for their money
Tell me why do they ride for short pay
They ain't a'gettin' nowhere
And they're losin' their share
Boy, they must've gone crazy out there
Son, they all must be crazy out there
-
although they are probably not my favorite band, i always think of new order when this question gets asked.
there's a song on their album "brotherhood" that has driven me crazy ever since i first heard it.
it's called "weirdo".
it's a fast song, and like a lot of new order songs where they play like a real rock band (in other words it's not one of their disco songs with sequencers and such), the things they're playing don't exactly fit together.
if you isolated any one of the instruments, you'd have no clue as to what the rest of the song sounded like. in that way, it's sort of a throw-back to what they used to do when they were "joy division."
and the song itself is this strange combination of melancholy and sheer exhiliration. it's just gorgeous.
the album came out over 20 years ago, but when i play that song it still gives me goosebumps. amazing. -
i love:
1. Iris by Goo Goo Dolls.. (it reminds me of my someone special to me.)
2. Half-Life by Duncansheik
3. 100 Years by Five for Fighting!!!..
whew. -
So very many favourite songs, in so many genres, but I figure my favourite song must be the one most-listened-to on my iPod, which is:
"My Girlfriend's Dead" by The Vandals.
Close seconds:
"Enid" by Barenaked Ladies
"Scenes From an Italian Restaurant" by Billy Joel
"Scotty Doesn't Know" by Sum 41
@izangel: LOVE "Iris"! Even though it featured in the dumb, dumb, DUMB movie "City of Angels," I still consider it one of the bext songs of the nineties. -
This boy, by The Beatles.
It was one of the first songs i heard from them, when i was 14. It touched me very deeply, the three vocal harmonies, the instrumental arrangements, all so close, rhythmic and orderly, so beautiful, so evocative... and i almost didn't understand what they were saying... but the sound, heavenly sound, perfect balance, guitars, bass, drumms, voices, and an incredible vocal solo by John Lennon (who composed the song)...
I call it Angelrock, this kind of style, hahahahha
