LMAO..
People actually think that the turkeys they stuff their faces with every year just pluck themselves and then happily hold their breath til they die?
And the fact that someone actually KILLS these birds is now a reflection on Palin?
Maybe the real reflection should be that she isn't such a hypocrite that she would avoid being seen with farmers doing their job?-
Exactly the same. I hate this particular hypocrisy to the point of nausea.
True story.
I had a friend Chew my read end for liking to hunt. She was doing this while unpacking about 10lbs of steak for tonights BBQ.
Yes, that chaps my @ss to the point of wishing we had open season for stupid people.
Edited to add:
In fact, I think that Obama would be well served being seen in situations like this. That would take some edge of his "bitter people clinging" remarks for instance. -
I had a friend Chew my rear end...
Okay, I know you didn't intend a pun with that statement, but it surely was hilarious in the context you talking about someone preparing to eat meat while complaining about hunting.
Edited to add: If Obama does take tukey-getting-killed-in-the-background or other hunting related photo-ops, I hope he makes sure Cheney's vacationing somewhere in another state.

CSI... I need to explain humor to you. What's funny is not that she's getting interviewed in front of someone killing turkeys. What's funny is that she's getting interviewed in front of someone killing turkeys right after PARDONING A TURKEY.
-
There are several things funny here.. One is that you seem not to understand that pardoning ONE means that others still get killed.
Palin seems to have grasped that concept, and seems comfortable enough with farmers providing that meat to not pretend they don't have to be killed to do so.
ANother funny funny is that some people actually thinks this is something strange. Especially when most will be gobbling them down in a week...
I'll let you know when i need you to explain anything to me.. Don't hold your breath... -
CSI you are to humor what hepatitis is to the liver.
No one said turkeys being killed is strange. No one had any delusion that one pardoned turkey meant that others wouldn't die.
If Palin doesn't pardon a turkey before this interview, it's just an interview with an odd backdrop. The pardoning is what makes it funny. -
Sati,
Are you going to be eating turkey next week? Or do you know anyone that is?
There IS nothing odd with this. And to be "seen with it" makes it sound like she is being seen with a cocain deal going on in the background. But as we all know. Cocain is nothing strange either considering our new president used to do it.
Renal,
Wow, to have a lecture on what humor is from you is like being lectured on gun safety by Cheney.. I'll pass.
As much as i could use your statements to your downside, I prefer to use them for my backside.
I believe that your "faliure" is a couple of feet higher than renal. -
Oh, erik, come on. I haven't seen the video (can't get YouTube at work - stinkin' commies
). So I don't know if anything is "strange" about it at all. But I think it is rather funny that anyone (forget that it's Palin) would pardon a turkey and then turn around and be interviewed in front of one being killed. That's just made-for-SNL-skit funny stuff right there.
Forget for a moment about the reality that turkeys need to be killed for us to eat them (I'm gonna have a sizable helping myself - gobble, gobble!), and that farmers need to make a living. That's beside the point. For me, if I'm just kicking back with my buddies and not being serious, the sight of a governor (or the President) doing the turkey-pardoning ritual and then having an interview in front of one being killed would just be downright funny. You gotta appreciate the irony, that's all. I'm laughing about it as I write this...the idea - stripped of all it's seriousness - is just stand-up-comedian funny. -
You know it would have been sat night funny if she pardoned a turkey and the farmer then picked it up and killed it anyway...
Lets examine why i don't think it is "funny" like you say it.
1. The fact that she isn't standing on the whitehouse lawn, but instead where turkeys are actually being killed. Makes the "pardon" worth a little more.. (I keep thinking that the whitehouse turkey is in fact the very one they are serving later... they just pretend it's pardoned...
)
2. It would have been funn-IER if like you said, people took it for what it's worth, but as soon as someone claims that this is horrible of her to be doing. We get back to reality.
And then we get to 3.
What doesn't make it funny is that politicians like so clearly stated by timethief in the regular forum, would normally not ever be seen in a situation like this. Which in the end makes me actually respect that she is so down to earth that she doesn't think being seen with a farmer doing his job is soemthing so horrible that you can't be seen with it. You wan't someone thats part of the people, have Obama be man enough to be filmed visiting a slaughterhouse.
I happened to get to this first, But by all means, check out the "normal" forum and the same thread there, and see what the morons are actually saying.

It simply isn't funny because people on average would actually prefer politicians to pretend their sh_t doesn't stink. We need less of that and more of just things like this. Politicians not shying away from the people they represent for "publicity reasons"
I don't want to see another Bush in a clean shirt walking around Katrina - New Orleans right before he gets back on his plane and has filet mignon and some champagne either.
What is funny however is people attacking me for calling it like it is. like our own CerebralFlatulence here. -
Erik – Obama doesn’t have to be “man enough” to go to a slaughterhouse. He already was man enough to be interviewed by O’Reilly. Wait a minute; I guess Obama already proved he’s man enough to go to a slaughterhouse
As for your opening comment, about the farmer killing the turkey that was just pardoned…I almost blew my soup out my nose when I read that. THAT was a funny visual!
And, as for your 1st point, I did think I saw Bush lick his lips right after that last turkey he pardoned…
-
I don't know much about Lewis Black, I'll have to look into him. And I just saw the video (since I'm home now). That dude in the background killing the turkeys totally looks like Will Ferrell in costume. I'm telling you, this was totally an SNL plant! It was just hilarious the way the guy kept looking into the camera like "look at me, I'm draining turkey blood!" Hilarious.

Ugh, stupid youtube
I think (without having seen the video) that the hubbub is because normally when one pardons a turkey, the big deal is about the pardoned turkey - it's all feel good stuff.
It's generally not done n front of a slaughterhouse while the slaughters are in full swing - kinda takes away from "the moment". I mean, the irony is there, it's funny - but still

I'm by no means a vegetarian, but even the life of a turkey has value and should be respected. In this video, killing the bird is so trivial to Palin, she doesn't even look over at what's going on behind her. That's the thing with these pro-lifers -- the only life that has any value to them is a human fetus.
-
Did the film crew realise that this would be a big clanger for her and will she blame the media for doing it?
This woman is clearly not fit for purpose and the idea that she will come back in 4 years is the biggest joke. -
Sarah Palin was never going to be the GOP "leader"...she had her run at a prominent position. The farthest she will go is Congress or a secretary position under a Republican president.
Talk of her being more is just blowing smoke.
And...BTW....the turkey interview is just plain stupid. There...I said it! I stood up for Palin's smartness for her entire run...but this move was one of the most stupidest things I've seen a politician do.-
LOL! Because she let a turkey be slaughtered behind her during an interview! I'm OK with the slaughter...but as a politician...you just don't do that! You betchya! LOL!
Also....if there was any tinge of seriousness in your comment...I was defending Palin as a person that did not deserve the intense mocking...whether she was qualified or not. But I never thought she had real presidential qualities. I think she could make a decent congresswoman...if she can ever recover from Turkey-Gate! -
She's the shallowest, most superficial talking airhead I've seen in politics.
If she was actually a bright person she would have realized where she was standing in the first place. Most people who actually have a brain make sure every thing is right in every situation.
A used car salesman is more believable.

As usual, we are looking for propaganda promoted throughout the web when it involves politics and political personalities. We are especially interested in articles that are so blatantly sexist as this one is...

After laughing at Slaughterhouse Sarah, I tried to figure out if her handlers and camera crew were as dumb as the turkeys being slaughtered. Whether or not Sarah Palin has mush for brains, the guy with the camera could have shifted angle to get the turkey death out of frame. Maybe Palin prefers not to work with people smarter than her.
